    Abstract : Introduction: Chronic illness is an increasingly predominant problem among the world population which vastly impacts on physical and mental health, quality of life and social functioning. Although chronic illnesses merit a long-term and complex response which would be ideally delivered by a multidisciplinary team of health professionals, most of the current healthcare for chronic illnesses still focus on acute episodes of illness. 2. 22. Asymmetry and the moderating effects of formal institutional distance on the relationship between cultural distance and performance of foreign subsidiaries in Latin America

    Author : Henrique Correa da Cunha; Svante Andersson; Mohamed Amal; Mikael Hilmersson; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Asymmetry; institutional distance; cultural distance; subsidiary; performance; Latin America;

    Abstract : This study investigates how Cultural and Formal Institutional distances and their interaction affect the performance of multinational foreign subsidiaries in Latin America. It is shown that using Kogut and Singh (1988) index or attributing the positive and negative signals to distances in opposite directions fail to capture asymmetric effects as it assumes either symmetry or opposing symmetry. 3. 23. Mast cells in chronic inflammatory diseases : new insights in mast cell function and phenotype

    Author : Ricardo Filipe Da Silva Carvalho; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Mast cells are multifunctional cells that play important roles in health and disease. They are long lived cells with the capacity to be activated several times. Upon activation mast cells release a huge array of mediators. The nature of the mediators released is dependent on the stimuli. READ MORE

  4. 24. Statistical Mechanical Studies of Aqueous solutions and Biomolecular Systems

    Author : Fernando Luis Barroso Da Silva; Beräkningskemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; highly charged macromolecules; dielectric discontinuity; dissociation constant; Tanford-Kirkwood model; protein mutation; electrostatic interactions; chemical potential; titration; biomolecules; computer simulations; radial distribution function; electrolyte solutions; continuum model.; Theoretical chemistry; quantum chemistry; Teoretisk kemi; kvantkemi;

    Abstract : This thesis is concerned with theoretical studies of aqueous solutions and biomolecular systems. Part of the present work is to understand equilibrium solvent and solute properties, while the other part is to study processes that occur in these solutions. READ MORE

  5. 25. Mechanisms of inter-organ crosstalk mediated by tryptophan metabolism

    Author : Paula Sofia Valente da Silva; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Physical exercise and nutrition balance the “energy in-energy out” equilibrium that keeps the system at a dynamic homeostasis, energetically speaking. However, this is a simplistic vision of a dynamic system that is in a constant fine-tuning of all of its parts. READ MORE
