1. Tomographic study of the 21-cm signal
Abstract : The next generation radio telescopes such as the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will be able to produce images of the redshifted Hi (neutral hydrogen) 21-cm signal from the Epoch of reionization (EoR). In this thesis, we use the simulated tomographic images of the signal and investigate methods to extract and interpret information from those images. READ MORE

2. Gravitational lensing as a probe of the first stars and galaxies
Abstract : This thesis investigates the potential for detection and identification of primordial stars, galaxies, and supernovae at high redshift.Simulations indicate that the first Population III stars should appear in minihalos of mass M = 105-106 Msol at z ≈ 10-30. READ MORE

3. Bothnia dystrophy, a clinical, genetical and electrophysiological study
Abstract : A high frequency of retinitis pigmentosa (RP) is found in Northern Sweden. In an inventory of autosomal recessive RP patients in Västerbotten County, a great number of cases with a unique phenotype was noticed, denoted Bothnia Dystrophy (BD). READ MORE

4. Molecular Astrophysics in Star-forming Regions with the Odin Satellite
Abstract : The interstellar medium is the cradle of life, stars and planets in the evolving Universe. Stars are born deep inside cold and dark molecular clouds, and affect the dynamical conditions in local regions by powerful winds, outflows, and by supernova explosions. READ MORE

5. Differential migration in raptors
Abstract : Differences between ages, sexes and populations in the timing of migration at Falsterbo, Sweden and in the choice of wintering site among raptors in Scania were investigated. Competition and dominance is the best primary explanation to the results. READ MORE
