  1. 1. The many-electron energy in density functional theory : from exchange-correlation functional design to applied electronic structure calculations

    Author : Rickard Armiento; Göran Grimvall; Jens K. Nörskov; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Att förutsäga egenskaper hos material och kemiska system är en viktig komponent för teoretisk och teknisk utveckling i fysik, kemi och biologi. Ett systems egenskaper styrs till stor del av dess elektrontillstånd. Datorprogram som baseras på täthetsfunktionalsteori kan beskriva elektronkonfigurationer mycket noggrant. READ MORE

  2. 2. Modelling and Optimisation of Integrated Biotechnical Processes -Application to the Fermentative Production of Lactic Acid from Wheat Flour

    Author : Christina Åkerberg; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical technology and engineering; economy; wheat flour; starch; lactic acid; kinetics; simulation; modelling; optimisation; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : Biotechnical processes are often integrated to increase productivity and yield. It is difficult to predict the effects of process integration and to find optimum conditions for the process. A valuable tool for the evaluation of a complete process is mathematical modelling. READ MORE

  3. 3. Properties of Hadronization in e+e- -Annihilation

    Author : Jari Häkkinen; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; högenergi; colour interferences; strong interactions; QCD; heavy quark fragmentation; MC programs; Kosmisk strålning; cosmic rays; hadronization; High energy interactions; e e- -annihilation; Fysicumarkivet A:1996:Häkkinen;

    Abstract : Possible effects from colour interferences in strong interactions are discussed and investigated, and possible experimental signals in e+e- --> hadrons and e+e- --> W+W- --> hadrons are suggested. The observability of the signals depend on the relative probabilities of the occurrence of interferences, and can provide a measurement of the probabilities. READ MORE

  4. 4. Reality-based brain-computer interaction

    Author : Daniel Sjölie; Lars-Erik Janlert; Johan Eriksson; John Waterworth; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; reality-based brain-computer interaction; virtual reality; reality-based interaction; brain-computer interface; activity theory; the free-energy principle; grounded cognition; Cognitive science; Kognitionsvetenskap; Computer science; Datalogi; människa-datorinteraktion; människa-datorinteraktion;

    Abstract : Recent developments within human-computer interaction (HCI) and cognitive neuroscience have come together to motivate and enable a framework for HCI with a solid basis in brain function and human reality. Human cognition is increasingly considered to be critically related to the development of human capabilities in the everyday environment (reality). READ MORE

  5. 5. Verification of Dose Calculation Algorithms in Treatment Planning Systems for External Radiation Therapy: A Monte Carlo Approach

    Author : Elinore Wieslander; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; radiotherapy; dose calculation algorithm; verification; Monte Carlo calculation; electron beam; photon beam; Clinical physics; radiology; tomography; medical instrumentation; Klinisk fysiologi; treatment planning system;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a new verification concept, the virtual accelerator, for dose calculation algorithms used in treatment planning systems (TPSs) for external beam radiotherapy. The algorithm input data required to implement a treatment unit in the TPS are generated by Monte Carlo simulations as are the beam reference data needed for the subsequent evaluation of the dose calculation algorithm.
