  1. 16. Aqueous Solutions as seen through an Electron Spectrometer : Surface Structure, Hydration Motifs and Ultrafast Charge Delocalization Dynamics

    Author : Niklas Ottosson; Svante Svensson; Olle Björneholm; Gunnar Öhrwall; Clemens Heske; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Water; Aqueous solutions; Ions; Molecular Hydration; Electron dynamics; Atmospheric Chemistry; Hydrolysis; Acid-Base Chemistry; Interatomic Coulombic Decay; ICD; Liquid Micro-Jet; X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy; XPS; Auger Electron Spectroscopy; AES; MAX-lab; BESSY; Physics; Fysik; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : In spite of their high abundance and importance, aqueous systems are enigmatic on the microscopic scale. In order to obtain information about their geometrical and electronic structure, simple aqueous solutions have been studied experimentally by photo- and Auger electron spectroscopy using the novel liquid micro-jet technique in conjunction with synchrotron radiation. 2. 17. Risk from radionuclides: a frog's perspective : Accumulation of 137Cs in a riparian wetland, radiation doses, and effects on frogs and toads after low-dose rate exposure

    Author : Karolina Stark; Nils Kautsky; Petra Wallberg; Torbjörn Nylén; Michael Gilek; Dennis Woodhead; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; dose model; mass balance budget; overbank sedimentation; amphibian; phantom; thermoluminescence chip; radiosensitivity; DNA damage; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Threats from man-made radionuclides include waste issues, increasing number of power plants, underground bomb testing, nuclear weapons, and “dirty bombs”. Until recently the ionizing radiation protection system focused on protecting humans with an implied protection of biota. READ MORE

  3. 18. Thermal Properties of Clusters and Molecules - Experiments on Evaporation, Thermionic Emission, and Radiative Cooling

    Author : Erika Sundén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; water clusters fullerenes unimolecular decay evaporation thermionic emission radiative decay cooling rates heat capacities;

    Abstract : This thesis presents experiments performed on clusters and molecules, where the three channels of unimolecular decay have been studied. Evaporation from protonated and negatively charged water cluster have yielded size dependent heat capacities, where the smallest sizes with fewer than $21$ molecules show a heat capacity similar to bulk ice whereas clusters with molecules between $21$ and $300$ have a heat capacity in between that of ice and liquid water. 4. 19. Studies in Mortgage Pricing and Finance Theory

    Author : Stefan Toll; Bengt Turner; Thomas Lindh; Timothy Riddiough; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Economics; Mortgage pricing; Finance theory; Reverse mortgages; Optimal loan contracts; Credit risk; Nationalekonomi; Economics; Nationalekonomi;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of three self-contained essays.Essay 1 examines the question of why reverse or participating mortgages have not been as much in demand as predicted. A theoretical framework is derived for evaluating the expected utility associated with a reverse or participating mortgage. READ MORE

  5. 20. Two-Barrier Problems in Applied Probability: Algorithms and Analysis

    Author : Mats Pihlsgård; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistics; operations research; programming; actuarial mathematics; Statistik; Matematik; Mathematics; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; Reflection; Stochastic processes; Applied probability; Queueing; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik;

    Abstract : This thesis consists of five papers (A-E). In Paper A, we study transient properties of the queue length process in various queueing settings. We focus on computing the mean and the Laplace transform of the time required for the queue length starting at $x0. We define the loss rate due to the reflection. READ MORE
