  1. 6. Meson Decay with Isospin Breaking At Two Loops

    Author : Karim Ghorbani; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kvantfältteori; Elementarpartikelfysik; quantum field theory; Elementary particle physics; Naturvetenskap; Natural science; hadron physics; standard model; chiral Lagrangian; quantum correction;

    Abstract : In all calculations done in this thesis, the evaluation of higher order quantum corrections has been central. In the first paper included in this thesis we have investigated the effects of finite volume meson propagators for quark-antiquark vacuum expectation value at two-loop level. READ MORE

  2. 7. Laboratory studies of forbidden decay processes in stored ions

    Author : Jonas Gurell; Sven Mannervik; Ahmed Al-Khalili; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Atomic physics; Atomfysik; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Measurements of atomic and ionic data has been an active research area since the beginning of spectroscopic studies. The experimental data deduced from thesestudies are of great interest for our understanding of fundamental as well as applied physics. READ MORE

  3. 8. DESIREE: Instrumentation Developments and Hot Metal Cluster Decays

    Author : Emma K. Anderson; Henning Schmidt; Henrik Cederquist; Henning Zettergren; Oded Heber; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; DESIREE; microchannel plate; clusters; spontaneous decay; small metal cluster anions; silver; copper; gold; carbon dianions; fragmentation; vibrational autodetachment; DESIREE; mikrokanalplattor; kluster; spontana sönderfall; små metallklusteranjoner; silver; koppar; guld; kol di-anjoner; fragmentering; Physics; fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis presents instrumentation developments and measurements performed at the Double ElectroStatic Ion Ring ExpEriment, DESIREE, at Stockholm University. DESIREE operates at cryogenic temperatures ~13 K, with very low background pressures of ~10-14mbar, allowing the observation of stored ions to long times of tens of seconds and longer. READ MORE

  4. 9. Functional Traits in Sphagnum

    Author : Fia Bengtsson; Håkan Rydin; Gustaf Granath; Cronberg Nils; Sari Juutinen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; peat mosses; functional traits; NPP; decay resistance; N2 fixation; desiccation resistance; climate; Biology with specialization in Ecological Botany; Biologi med inriktning mot ekologisk botanik;

    Abstract : Peat mosses (Sphagnum) are ecosystem engineers that largely govern carbon sequestration in northern hemisphere peatlands. I investigated functional traits in Sphagnum species and addressed the questions: (I) Are growth, photosynthesis and decomposition and the trade-offs between these traits related to habitat or phylogeny?, (II) Which are the determinants of decomposition and are there trade-offs between metabolites that affect decomposition?, (III) How do macro-climate and local environment determine growth in Sphagnum across the Holarctic?, (IV) How does N2 fixation vary among different species and habitats?, (V) How do species from different microtopographic niches avoid or tolerate desiccation, and are leaf and structural traits adaptations to growth high above the water table?Photosynthetic rate and decomposition in laboratory conditions (innate growth and decay resistance) were related to growth and decomposition in their natural habitats. 5. 10. HIV Persistence and Viral Reservoirs

    Author : Arvid Edén; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; HIV-1; antiretroviral therapy; latency; cerebrospinal fluid; central nervous system; efavirenz; lopinavir; atazanavir; neopterin; viral decay;

    Abstract : Although antiretroviral therapy (ART) can effectively inhibit replication of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), the virus is able to persist in cellular and anatomical viral reservoirs. Latently infected resting memory CD4+ T-cells are an important cellular reservoir, and the central nervous system (CNS) an important anatomical reservoir for HIV-1 infection. READ MORE
