  1. 11. A Signal Processing Approach to Practical Neurophysiology : A Search for Improved Methods in Clinical Routine and Research

    Author : Björn Hammarberg; Dick Stegeman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systemteknik; matched filter; asynchronous detection; Kalman filter; initialization; MHT; Wiener deconvolution; line source model; electromyography; needle EMG; motor unit potential; MUAP; mean fiber concentration; jitter; microneurography; C-fiber; spike sorting; Systemteknik; Systems engineering; Systemteknik; Signal Processing; signalbehandling;

    Abstract : Signal processing within the neurophysiological field is challenging and requires short processing time and reliable results. In this thesis, three main problems are considered.First, a modified line source model for simulation of muscle action potentials (APs) is presented. READ MORE

  2. 12. Chemical proteomics for drug target deconvolution and to study biological systems

    Author : Christian M Beusch; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Mass spectrometry-based proteomics has become an irreplaceable method for the unbiased and system-wide study of protein chemistry. As modern proteomics methods can not only be applied to quantify protein expression levels, but also monitor changes in post-translational modifications, subcellular localization, turnover rate, and lastly protein structures, it has become a method of choice for drug discovery and dissecting cellular processes. Abstract : In a society where environmental noise is becoming a major health and economical concern, sound emissions are an increasingly critical design factor for vehicle manufacturers. With about a quarter of the European population living close to roads with heavy traffic, traffic noise in urban landscapes has to be addressed first. READ MORE

  4. 14. Optimisation and Validation of Dynamic Susceptibility Contrast MRI Perfusion Measurements

    Author : Linda Knutsson; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Nukleärmedicin; radiobiologi; Nuclear medicine; radiobiology; radiologi; tomografi; medicinsk instrumentering; tomography; medical instrumentation; Clinical physics; cerebral blood volume; mean transit time; cerebral blood flow; perfusion; dynamic susceptibility contrast MRI arterial input function; Klinisk fysiologi; radiology;

    Abstract : The studies presented in this thesis concern the optimisation and evaluation of the dynamic susceptibility contrast magnetic resonance imaging (DSC-MRI) technique for the assessment of perfusion-related parameters of the brain, such as cerebral blood flow (CBF), cerebral blood volume (CBV) and mean transit time (MTT). Several methodological factors influence these measurements, for example, contrast-agent administration, arterial input function (AIF) registration, choice of deconvolution algorithm and the choice of pulse-sequence parameters. 5. 15. Maximum a posteriori deconvulution of ultrasonic data with applications in nondestructive testing : Multiple transducer and robustness is

    Author : Tomas Olofsson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Ultrasonic pulse-echo testing; nondestructive testing; maximum a posteriori estimation; linear minimum mean squared error estimation; robust filtering; multivariable filtering; sparse deconvolution; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap; Signal Processing; signalbehandling;

    Abstract : In the thesis, various aspects of deconvolution of ultrasonic pulse-echo signals in nondestructive testing are treated. The deconvolution problem is formulated as estimation of a reflection sequence which is the impulse characteristic of the inspected object and the estimation is performed using either maximum a posteriori (MAP) or linear minimum mean square error (MMSE) estimators.
