11. Development and application of strategies for the analysis of modification patterns in chondroitin and dermatan sulphate
Abstract : Chondroitin (CS) and dermatan sulphate (DS) are socalled glycosaminoglycans (GAG) that are covalently attached to various type of proteins forming a subgroup within the diverse proteoglycan (PG) family. The PGs studied in this thesis are mostly extracellularly located and include aggrecan, biglycan and decorin. READ MORE

12. Functions of small leucine-rich repeat proteoglycans in connective tissues
Abstract : Biological properties of connective tissues rely heavily on collagen and its use in formation of extracellular networks (matrices) in which cells can live and move. To regulate the process of collagen matrix assembly, the cells secrete small leucine-rich repeat proteoglycans (SLRPs) that bind to collagen and influence its fibril formation. READ MORE

13. Intracellular processing of pre-a-inhibitor
Abstract : Pre-α-inhibitor (PαI) is a plasma protein consisting of a 25 and a 75 kDa polypeptide: bikunin and heavy chain 3 (H3), respectively. Both these polypeptides are made by hepatocytes and while passing through the Golgi complex, bikunin, which carries a chondroitin sulfate chain, becomes covalently linked to the C-terminal amino acid residue of H3 via its polysaccharide. 14. Biomolecular Aspects of Flexor Tendon Healing
Abstract : Flexor tendon injuries in zone II of the hand (i.e. between the distal volar crease and the distal interphalangeal joint) can be costly for both the afflicted individual and society because of the high cost of a long rehabilitation period, complicated by tendon ruptures or scarring with adhesion formation, causing impaired range of motion. 15. Functional and molecular aspects of the glomerular barrier
Abstract : The kidneys are crucial for maintaining a normal salt-water balance in the body, which is a prerequisite for life. They do that by filtering 180 liters of plasma per day across the highly permselective glomerular barrier and reabsorbing 99 % of the filtrate. READ MORE
