  1. 1. The role of tectonics, structures and etch processes for the present relief in glaciated Precambrian besement rocks of SW Sweden

    Author : Magnus Johansson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Landforms; morphotectonics; palaeosurfaces; GIS; digital elevation data; granite; deep weathering; saprolites; etchsurface; basins; structures; glacial reshaping; roche moutonnée; Naturgeografi; Physical Geography;

    Abstract : In high latitudes, landscapes of low relief are known to contain residues of pre-glacial deep weathering, or etching, which testify to limited modification of the pre-glacial relief by the Pleistocene ice sheets. In this thesis landforms in all scales are classified according to their process of formation. READ MORE

  2. 2. Palaeosurfaces and palaeovalleys on North Atlantic previously glaciated passive margins : reference forms for conclusions on uplift and erosion

    Author : Johan M. Bonow; Karna Lidmar-Bergström; Clas Hättestrand; Jens-Ove Näslund; Mats Olvmo; Adrian Hall; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; palaeosurface; palaeovalley; uplift; valley; incision; glacial erosion; weathering; Neogene; southern Norway; West Greenland; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : Palaeosurfaces and palaeovalleys are landforms under destruction in the present climate and/or tectonic regime, and thus mainly reflect processes not active today. Uplifted palaeosurfaces exist along the formerly glaciated passive continental margins around the North Atlantic. READ MORE

  3. 3. Microbe-mineral interactions in soil : Investigation of biogenic chelators, microenvironments and weathering processes

    Author : Engy Ahmed; Sara Holmström; Roger Finlay; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Podzol; Biotite; Apatite; Oligoclase; Microbial attachment; Siderophores; Soil microorganisms; geokemi; Geochemistry;

    Abstract : The interplay between geology and biology has shaped the Earth during billions of years. Microbe-mineral interactions are prime examples of this interplay and underscore the importance of microorganisms in making Earth a suitable environment for all forms of life. READ MORE

  4. 4. Metals released from mine waste deposits : Redistribution and fluxes through geological barriers

    Author : Karsten Håkansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; INTERDISCIPLINARY RESEARCH AREAS; TVÄRVETENSKAPLIGA FORSKNINGSOMRÅDEN;

    Abstract : The redistribution of metals from point sources (sulphidic mine waste) is presented in this thesis. The impact on surface water systems is determined from water quality and sediment data. It is generally found that lakes act as sinks for the metals, to a different extent for eachmetal. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hydroxamate Siderophores and Low Molecular Mass Organic Acids in Terrestrial and Aquatic Environments Determined by Liquid Chromatography Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Sofia Essén; Ulla Lundström; Dan Bylund; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : Siderophores are low molecular mass organic compounds with high iron(III) stability constants. They are produced by many microorganisms, often in combination with low molecular mass organic acids (LMMOAs). Both siderophores and LMMOAs accelerate mineral weathering, thereby enhancing mineral nutrient availability. READ MORE
