  1. 1. Teratogenicity as a consequence of drug-induced embryonic cardiac arrhythmia : Common mechanism for almokalant, sotalol, cisapride, and phenytoin via inhibition of IKr

    Author : Anna-Carin Sköld; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Pharmaceutical biosciences; IKr; delayed rectifying K channel; embryonic cardiac arrhythmia; teratogenicity; Farmaceutisk biovetenskap; Biopharmacy; Biofarmaci; Toxicology; toxikologi;

    Abstract : During the last years, drugs that prolong the repolarisation phase of the myocardial action potential, due to inhibition of the rapid component of the delayed-rectifying potassium channel (IKr) have been in focus. In addition to arrhythmogenic potential, selective Ikr-blockers have also been shown to be embryotoxic and teratogenic in animal studies. READ MORE

  2. 2. Transducer properties of a mechanoreceptor : an electrophysiological and pharmacological study of the crayfish stretch receptor

    Author : Jiahui Lin; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : stretch receptor; Na channels; K channels; local anesthetics; calmodulin antagonist; patch clamp; voltage clamp;

    Abstract : The abdominal stretch receptor organ of the crayfish, an analog to the human muscle spindle, contains one slowly adapting (SA) and one rapidly adapting (RA) receptor neuron. The general aims of this project were to elucidate, in the SA and RA neurons, the participation of voltagegated Na+ and K+ channels in overall transducer process and adaptation, and to study possible blocking agents specific to mechanosensitive (MS) channels. 3. 3. Role of water channels in kidney and lung

    Author : Yanhong Li; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Aquaporins (AQPs) are membrane proteins that function as water channels facilitating a rapid and regulated transport of water across cell membranes. AQPs in kidney and lung play pivotal roles for the regulation of water homeostasis. READ MORE
