1. Health in middle-aged women, with emphasis on features of the metabolic syndrome and related markers for diabetes. Women´s Health in the Lund Area Study
Abstract : The aims were to study the biological, socio-demographic and psychosocial health profile in a geographically defined population of middle-aged women, with focus on features of the metabolic syndrome and diabetes, and to study the efficiency of a screening method for high-risk individuals and the outcome of baseline lifestyle advices on the diabetes incidence. 2. Urban women applying for induced abortion. Studies of epidemiology, attitudes and emotional reactions
Abstract : In Sweden between 32-38,000 women annually elect to terminate pregnancy by means of induced abortion, though their reasons are still not well understood. The purpose of these studies, carried out at the Department of Obstetrics and gynecology and of Community Medicine at University Hospital, Malmö, was to elucidate the incidence of induced abortion in an urban population, with special emphasis on epidemiological and socio-demographic factors, the women's attitude to abortion, and the incidence and severity of post-abortion emotional reactions. The aim of this study was to evaluate the general health status and influences of background factors on symptomatology among a cohort of Swedish women aged 50-64 years, with specific emphasis on the effects of hormone replacement therapy (HRT) by investigating a profile of HRT use, long-term effects of HRT by different tapes and routes of administration as well as clinical and metabolic changes by use of low dose HRT.
