  1. 1. On dental ceramics and their fracture : a laboratory and numerical study

    Author : Wen Kou; Göran Sjögren; Tore Dérand; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dental ceramics; Finite element analysis; Fixed partial denture; Fracture; Numerical modeling; Surface treatment; Biomaterials; Biomaterial; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : Background Surface treatments and irregularities in the surfaces may affect the fracture of ceramics. The effects of various treatments on the surface texture of different types of ceramic cores/substructures was therefore qualitatively, quantitatively and numerically evaluated. READ MORE

  2. 2. Characterising Dental Implant Surfaces by Topographical, Electrochemical, and Biomechanical Methods

    Author : Johanna Löberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Titanium dental implants; 3D-SEM; AFM; Mott-Schottky analysis; surface roughness parameters; biomechanics.;

    Abstract : Replacement of extracted teeth by dental implants was first introduced in the 1950’s. From the beginning, threaded titanium implants with smooth surfaces were used. Later on, screw shaped implants with micro-scaled roughened surfaces were introduced showing bone ingrowth and improved in vivo and in vitro results and good long term stability. READ MORE

  3. 3. Optimization of Electron Beam Melting for Production of Small Components in Biocompatible Titanium Grades

    Author : Joakim Karlsson; Håkan Prof.; Mikael Bäckström; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Additive Manufacturing; 3D-printing; Electron Beam Melting; Titanium alloys; Chemical properties; Mechanical properties; Surface properties; Additiv tillverkning; 3D-skrivare; Electron Beam Melting; Titan; Kemiska egenskaper; Mekaniska egenskaper; Ytegenskaper; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot materialvetenskap; Engineering Science with specialization in Materials Science;

    Abstract : Additive manufacturing (AM), also called 3D-printing, are technologies where parts are formed from the bottom up by adding material layer-by-layer on top of each other. Electron Beam Melting (EBM) is an AM technique capable of manufacturing fully solid metallic parts, using a high-intensity electron beam to melt powder particles in layers to form finished components. 4. 4. Integrated biomechanical, electronic and topographic characterization of titanium dental implants

    Author : Johanna Löberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Surface roughness parameters; 3D-SEM; AFM; Interfacial shear strength; Impedance spectroscopy; Cyclic voltammetry; SBF; MG-63; TiO2-nanoparticles;

    Abstract : Titanium dental implants are medical devices used to restore the function entailed with the loss of one or several teeth. To obtain successful function over long periods, the dental implants must be sufficiently anchored in the bone to withstand the forces induced by for example chewing. READ MORE

  5. 5. Accuracy of virtually planned and CAD/CAM-guided dental implant surgery

    Author : Andreas Pettersson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : dental implant;

    Abstract : The treatment with dental implants was introduced in the 1960s as an aid for patients who were missing teeth. Recently CAD/CAM guided surgical concepts have been launched on the market as a solution for treating single, partial or completely edentulous patients with dental implants. READ MORE
