  1. 1. On dental implant failure and patient-related factors

    Author : Malin Olsson Malm; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dental implants; implant failure; long term; implant surface; multivariable logistic regression; case-control study; edentulous jaw; gene expression analysis; early implant failure; patient factors;

    Abstract : Dental implants function as anchorage for dental prostheses. In a small number of cases, osseointegration fails to establish or be maintained around the implants, but the reasons for these failures are not yet fully understood. READ MORE

  2. 2. On implant integration in irradiated bone : clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Jan Nyberg; Börje Svensson; Christer Dahlin; Carina B. Johansson; Bo Sunzel; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dental implant; osseointegration; radiation therapy; bone remodeling; histomorphometry; hyperbaric oxygen therapy; gene expression and in vivo; Surgery; Kirurgi;

    Abstract : Radiation has an impact on the processes involved in bone- healing, regeneration and remodeling. The mechanisms that cause impaired bone healing of dental implants are not fully understood. Adjunctive treatments to revers radiation effects are limited. READ MORE

  3. 3. Healing of endosseous implants with different surface characteristics in grafted and non-grafted bone : clinical and experimental studies

    Author : Måns Jungner; Stefan Lundgren; Malou Hultcrantz; Carina Lundqvist; Peter Nilsson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Dental implants; surface characteristics; bone graft; maxillary sinus; implant survival; oxidized surface; turned surface; sinus membrane elevation; bone formation; macrophages; osteocalcin; osteopontin; CD68; odontologi; Odontology;

    Abstract : Aims: This study uses radiological and clinical evaluations of the healing of endosseous titanium implants presented with different surface characteristics in the clinical situation (paper I-III) and experimentally to describe the early bone healing in maxillary sinus membrane elevation with and without the use of grafting material (paper IV).Material and methods: In paper I, 136 patients were treated with 394 dental implants – 199 were oxidized titanium implants (Nobel Biocare TiUnite) and 195 were turned titanium surface implants (Nobel Biocare Mark III). 4. 4. The effect of tobacco exposure on bone healing and the osseointegrationof dental implants

    Author : Shariel Sayardoust; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; crevicular fluid; dental implants; gene expression; human; implant surfaces; implant survival; marginal bone loss; osseointegration; pain; periodontitis; resonance frequently analysis; smoking; titanium;

    Abstract : Background: The mechanisms behind the impact of smoking on osseointegration are not fully understood. Aim: To correlate the clinical and molecular aspects of osseointegration in smokers compared with non-smokers. READ MORE

  5. 5. Peri-implantitis and periodontitis. Experimental and clinical studies

    Author : Olivier Carcuac; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; dental implant; animal experiment; biopsy; radiology; histology; immunohistochemistry; inflammation; peri-implant disease; periodontal disease; treatment; systemic antibiotics; antiseptics;

    Abstract : Peri-implantitis is an increasing problem in implant dentistry. The current series of studies employed a translational approach with the aim to compare peri-implantitis and periodontitis lesions and evaluate the influence of implant surface characteristics and the adjunctive use of systemic antibiotics/local antiseptics on healing following surgical treatment of peri-implantitis.
