  1. 11. Fast dynamics and measurements of single-charge devices

    Author : Fredrik Persson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; resonator; single-electron box; superconducting devices; decoherence; quantum capacitance; Sisyphus resistance; transmon; single-Cooper-pair box; qubit; rf-reflectometry;

    Abstract : In this thesis we present measurements on several different devices, including the single-Cooper-pair box (SCB), the single-electron box, tunable superconducting resonators and so called transmon qubits.By exploiting the quantum capacitance of the SCB, its state was measured by embedding the box in a radio-frequency resonator. 2. 12. Optical Memories and Processing in Time- and Frequency Domain

    Author : Baozhu Luo; Atomfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Optical storage; photon echo; spectral hole burning; nonlinear optics; fiber amplifier; logical operation; phase retrieval; polarization holographic recording and retrieval; optical processing; Atomic and molecular physics; Atom- och molekylärfysik; Fysicumarkivet A:1998:Luo;

    Abstract : Spectral hole burning and photon echoes are the techniques for frequency-selective optical memories, which have the potential to increase areal data storage density by a factor 10**7. They also have the capability to perform in-memory data processing. READ MORE

  3. 13. Advanced nano- and microdomain engineering of Rb-doped KTiOPO4 for nonlinear optical applications

    Author : Charlotte Liljestrand; Carlota Canalias; Sunao Kurimura; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; KTiOPO4; nonlinear optics; MOPO; quasi-phase matching; SHG; ferroelectrics; domain structuring; periodic poling; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Fine-pitch ferroelectric domain gratings are extensively used for generation of light in the visible and near-infrared spectral regions through quasi-phase matched (QPM) frequency conversion. Sub-μm QPM devices enables demonstration of nonlinear optics with counterpropagating waves, a field of nonlinear optics which remains sparsely explored due to the difficulty of fabricatinghigh quality gratings. 4. 14. The Single Cooper Pair Box - a Quantum-Mechanical Electronic Circuit

    Author : David Gunnarsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; quantum capacitance; quantum computing; single Cooper-pair box; SET; radio-frequency single-electron-transistor; macroscopic quantum coherence; Qubit;

    Abstract : In this thesis the single Cooper pair box (SCB) is investigated with a radio frequency single electron transistor (RF-SET). The RF-SET is used as an electrometer to detect the charge of the SCB. The SCB can be regarded as a quantum two-level system and could therefore be a possible qubit. READ MORE

  5. 15. High-speed optical modulators based on intersubband transitions

    Author : Petter Holmström; KTH; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Optical modulators are essential components in high speedoptical communication. They are employed to circumvent theinherent speed limitations of direct modulated semiconductorlasers, and may also extend the transmission distance onoptical fibers by providing optical pulses with lowerchirp.
