6. Alkali Induced High Temperature Corrosion of Stainless Steel - Experiences from Laboratory and Field
Abstract : The high temperature corrosion of steam superheaters is a major obstacle that has to be overcome in order to increase the electricity generating efficiency of power boilers burning biomass or waste. This thesis addresses this issue by a combination of well-controlled model experiments in the laboratory and short and long term field exposures using cooled probes in full-scale biomass and waste fired boilers. 7. Emission and Deposit Formation in Direct Injection Stratified Charge SI Engines
Abstract : A promising approach to increase the efficiency of the spark ignition (SI) engine is to inject the fuel directly into the cylinder to form a stratified charge. There is a potential to reduce the fuel consumption at low speeds and loads by 20 - 25% compared with conventional SI engines with stoichiometric homogeneous charge. READ MORE

8. Snow deposit melt and atmospheric icing : analysis and modelling by weather station data
Abstract : Snow deposit melt should be included when dealing with urban run off. Every winter structures experience atmospheric icing. The objective was to develop physically sound models based on weather station data for estimating snow melt and atmospheric icing. READ MORE

9. Protons, other Light Ions, and 60Co Photons : Study of Energy Deposit Clustering via Track Structure Simulations
Abstract : Radiotherapy aims to sterilize cancer cells through ionization induced damages to their DNA whilst trying to reduce dose burdens to healthy tissues. This can be achieved to a certain extent by optimizing the choice of radiation to treat the patient, i.e. the types of particles and their energy based on their specific interaction patterns. 10. Co-firing animal waste, sludge, residue wood, peat and forest fuels in a 50MWth CFB boiler : ash transformation, availability and process improvements
Abstract : The direct variable costs for heat and electricity production based on solid biomass fuel combustion is approximately 3-5 times lower than the costs in a fossil fuel-oil based boiler in Sweden. In addition waste derived biomass fuels are typically much cheaper than biomass not classified as waste. READ MORE
