  1. 6. The influence of Al alloy microstructure on conversion coating formation

    Author : Salil Sainis; Caterina Zanella; Ehsan Ghassemali; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; aluminium alloys; cast Al-Si alloys; conversion coating treatment; cerium; localized deposition; surface pre-treatments; microstructure; SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM; aluminiumlegeringar; gjutna Al-Si legeringar; omvandlingsbeläggningar; cerium; lokaliserad deposition; ytförbehandlingar; microstruktur SEM; FIB-SEM; AFM-SKPFM;

    Abstract : The formation of conversion coatings based on Ce, trivalent Cr and Ti/Zr is triggered by the local pH increase at cathodic IM sites of the aluminium alloy microstructure. The pH gradient is created over the cathodic intermetallic (IM) sites of the microstructure and its intensity is influenced by their activity which depends on their chemical composition, their size, and spatial distribution. 2. 7. Mesoporous Silica SBA-15 - Formation, Modification and Application

    Author : Tomas Kjellman; Fysikalisk kemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; SBA-15; Mesoporous Silica; Intrawall pores; Colloidal Stability; Drug release; Deposition;

    Abstract : Several aspects related to the mesoporous silica material SBA-15 have been studied through the use of a wide range of experimental techniques, including low voltage high-resolution scanning electron microscopy, small angle X-ray scattering and nitrogen sorption. This work contains three parts, which are in many ways overlapping. READ MORE

  3. 8. Fluorescence Properties of Quantum Dots and Their Utilization in Bioimaging

    Author : Hao Xu; Ying Fu; Hjalmar Brismar; Marina Zelenina; Mattias Goksör; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Fluorescence; Microscopy; Bioimaging; Nanomaterial; cytotoxicity; mechanism; Biological Physics; Biologisk fysik;

    Abstract : Quantum dots (QDs), especially colloidal semiconductor QDs, possess properties including high quantum yields, narrow fluorescence spectra, broad absorption and excellent photostability, making them extremely powerful in bioimaging. In this thesis, we studied the fluorescence properties of QDs and attempted multiple ways to boost applications of QDs in bioimaging field. READ MORE

  4. 9. Polybrominated diphenylethers in the environment - Local and long range transport

    Author : Arnout ter Schure; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Substance Flow Analysis; Spatial Variation; Sources; PCB; PBDE; Latitude; Global Fractionation; Frogs; Deposition; Atmosphere; Baltic Sea; Ekologi; Temperature; Washout ratio; Ecology;

    Abstract : I have studied the sources, long range transport, and rates of flow of polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), from the technosphere to the Baltic ecosystems. PBDEs are mainly used in polymers, which are applied in electrical equipment to prevent overheating or flashover and are produced in large quantities. READ MORE

  5. 10. Understanding corrosion protection mechanisms of nanocomposite polymer coatings on carbon steel : A combination of in-situ AFM and electrochemical studies

    Author : Jing Li; Jinshan Pan; Per Claesson; Herman Terryn; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Polymer coatings; electrochemistry; nano; in-situ AFM; mechanism; corrosion protection; Kemi; Chemistry; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : Corrosion protection of carbon steel is crucial in today’s world and there is an urgent need to replace the hazardous compounds used with environmentally friendly anticorrosion coatings. In this European collaborative research project, new types of functional composite anticorrosion coatings for steel were developed with properties beyond the state-of-the-art using nanotechnology.
