1. Ventilation/Perfusion Matching and its Effect on Volatile Pharmacokinetics
Abstract : The mismatching of alveolar ventilation and perfusion (VA/Q) is the major determinant of impaired gas exchange. The gold standard for analyzing VA/Q distribution is the multiple inert gas elimination technique (MIGET), conventionally based on gas chromatography (GC), and, although simple in principle, a technically demanding procedure limiting its use. 2. The Immune Response to One-Lung Ventilation : Clinical and Experimental Studies
Abstract : One-lung ventilation (OLV) as an established procedure during thoracic surgery may be injurious in terms of increased mechanical stress characterised by alveolar cell stretch and overdistension, increased cyclic tidal recruitment of alveolar units, compression of alveolar vessels and increased pulmonary vascular resistance. This may result in ventilation-induced lung injury with pro-inflammatory cytokine production, leukocyte recruitment and neutrophil-dependent tissue destruction. READ MORE

3. Modern inhalation agents and effects of anaesthesia equipment during low-flow anaesthesia
Abstract : Volatile agents are economically and ecologically acceptable only when administered via low-flow systems. However, sevoflurane degrades during low-flow anaesthesia to compound A, and a high carbon dioxide absorber temperature increases this degradation. READ MORE

4. Genetic and cognitive aspects on recovery after propofol anaesthesia
Abstract : Propofol is one of the most used intravenous anaesthetics in the western world. It is often used for ambulatory surgery due to favourable pharmacokinetic properties allowing quick onset and short emergence time. However, there is considerable interindividual variation in pharmacokinetics and dynamics as well as gender differences. READ MORE

5. Anaesthesia and analgesia for surgery in rabbits and rats : a comparison of the effects of different compounds
Abstract : Studies of anaesthesia and analgesia in rats and rabbit were undertaken with the aim to improve anaesthesia techniques, for better animal welfare and research quality. Induction of anaesthesia with the volatile halogenated agents isoflurane, sevoflurane and desflurane was compared in the New Zealand White rabbit. READ MORE
