  1. 11. Transceiver Design for Multiple Antenna Communication Systems with Imperfect Channel State Information

    Author : Xi Zhang; Björn Ottersten; Miguel Lagunas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; MIMO; imperfect CSI; linear transceiver; beamforming; user selection; robust design; channel statistics; Telecommunication; Telekommunikation;

    Abstract : Wireless communication links with multiple antennas at both the transmitter and the receiver sides, so-called multiple-input-multiple-output (MIMO)systems, are attracting much interest since they can significantly increase the capacity of band-limited wireless channels to meet the requirements of the future high data rate wireless communications. The treatment of channel state information (CSI) is critical in the design of MIMO systems. READ MORE

  2. 12. Parallel design optimization of multi-trailer articulated heavy vehicles with active safety systems

    Author : Manjurul Islam; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Active safety systems; Active trailer steering; Multi-trailer articulated heavy vehicles; High performance computing; Design optimization;

    Abstract : Multi-trailer articulated heavy vehicles (MTAHVs) exhibit unstable motion modes at high speeds, including jack-knifing, trailer swing, and roll-over. These unstable motion modes may lead to fatal accidents. On the other hand, these vehicle combinations have poor maneuverability at low speeds. READ MORE

  3. 13. Optimal Design of Neuro-Mechanical Networks

    Author : Carl-Johan Thore; Anders Klarbring; Matts Karlsson; Petter Krus; Mathias Stolpe; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : Neuro-mechanical networks; active structures; neural networks; structural optimization; TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIKVETENSKAP;

    Abstract : This thesis concerns modeling and optimal design of Neuro-Mechanical Networks. A Neuro-Mechanical Network (NMN) can be described as an active mechanical structure, made up from a network of simple but multifunctional elements that interact with their nearest neighbors. READ MORE

  4. 14. Engineering Designers' Requirements on Design for Environment Methods and Tools

    Author : Mattias Lindahl; Margareta Norell Bergendahl; Tim McAlonone; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Environmental technology; Design for Environment; Methods and Tools; Requirements; Miljöteknik; Environmental engineering; Miljöteknik;

    Abstract : Given a special focus on Design for Environment (DfE) methods and tools, the objectives of this thesis are to, “Identify basic design-related requirements that a method or tool should fulfill in order to become actively used by engineering designers”, and to “Investigate how those basic requirements could be used to make DfE methods and tools more actively used in industry among engineering designers”. The research has shown that designers in general have three main purposes for utilizing methods and tools, of which the last two could be seen as subsets of the first one. READ MORE

  5. 15. Design of carbide-based nanocomposite coatings

    Author : Erik Lewin; Ulf Jansson; Jörg Patscheider; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chemistry; thin film; dc magnetron sputtering; carbide; nanocomposite; PVD; solid solution; Chemistry; Kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic Chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis research on synthesis, microstructure and properties of carbide-based coatings is reported. These coatings are electrically conducting, and can be tailored for high hardness, low friction and wear, along with load-adaptive behaviour. Tailoring these properties is achieved by controlling the relative phase content of the material. READ MORE
