  1. 1. Thinking beyond the Cure : a constructive design research investigation into the patient experience of radiotherapy

    Author : Tara Mullaney; Erik Stolterman; Helena Pettersson; Johan Redström; Jodi Forlizzi; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; constructive design research; patient experience of radiotherapy; actor networks; design experiments; composite methodology; mixed-methods; prototyping; design research; research through design;

    Abstract : This constructive design research dissertation aims to understand how design can be used as part of a composite research approach to generate knowledge about how complex phenomena are composed through their interactions and relationships with various actors, both human and non-human. It has done this by investigating a single phenomenon, the patient experience of radiotherapy. READ MORE

  2. 2. Bringing an interactive artefact into being : Examining the use of an architectural design model in interaction design

    Author : Parag Deshpande; L.J. Bannon; David Benyon; University of Limerick; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; interaction design;

    Abstract : This thesis examines the use of an architectural design model in interaction design and provides a detailed and concrete account of bringing an interactive artefact, the Recipe Station, into being.The model of architectural design, with its view of the activity of design as envisioning and making incorporates a number of design traditions that allows architects to deal with novel challenges in an effective and efficient manner. 3. 3. Staging urban emergence through collective creativity: Devising an outdoor mobile augmented reality tool

    Author : Hyekyung Imottesjo; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Urban Rules; Emergent processes; outdoor mobile augmented reality; Compact city; Complex adaptive systems; Urban resilience; collaborative design; research-through-design;

    Abstract : The unpredictability of global geopolitical conflicts, economic trends, and impacts of climate change, coupled with an increasing urban population, necessitates a more profound commitment to resilience thinking in urban planning and design. In contrast to top-down planning and designing for sustainability, allowing for emergence to take place seems to contribute to a capacity to better deal with this complex unpredictability, by allowing incremental changes through bottom-up, self-organized adaptation made by diverse actors in the proximity of various social, economical and functional entities in the urban context. 4. 4. Information Visualization Using Transparent Displays in Mobile Cranes and Excavators

    Author : Taufik Akbar Sitompul; Rikard Lindell; Björn Lisper; Philippe Palanque; Mälardalens högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer Science; datavetenskap;

    Abstract : Operating heavy machinery, such as mobile cranes and excavators, is a complex task. While driving the machine, operators are also performing industrial tasks, e.g. lifting or digging, monitoring the machine’s status, and observing the surroundings. READ MORE

  5. 5. Being-with Information Technology : Critical explorations beyond use and design

    Author : Anna Croon Fors; Erik Stolterman; Peter Wright; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Informatik; Informatics; Informatik;

    Abstract : In the thesis a theoretical exploration concerning the significance of information technology in everyday life is conducted. The main question advanced is how the reflexive nature of information technology can be envisioned. By this question attention is directed to transformative, experiential and dynamic qualities of information technology,i.e. READ MORE
