Societies today are also in atransition from traditional production industries to increasingreliance on communication, consumption, services and experience. Asone of these emerging ‘new industries’, tourism is part of thismovement. READ MORE

  2. 2. Applying Data Analytics to Freight Train Delays in Shunting Yards

    Author : Niloofar Minbashi; Markus Bohlin; Behzad Kordnejad; Carl-William Palmqvist; C. Tyler Dick; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Shunting yards; delay prediction; congestion; delay probability distributions; temporal delay distributions; Rangergodsbangårdarna; förseningsprediktion; trängsel; fördröjning av sannolikhetsdistributioner; tidsfördröjningsdistributioner; Transportsystem; Transport Systems;

    Abstract : The European Commission has foreseen a modal share of 30% by 2030 for rail freight transport. To achieve this increase in the modal share, enhanced reliability of rail freight services is required. Optimal functioning of shunting yards is one of the areas that can improve this reliability. 3. 3. Fuel-Efficient Heavy-Duty Vehicle Platoon Formation

    Author : Kuo-Yun Liang; Karl Henrik Johansson; Jonas Mårtensson; Carlos Canudas-de-Wit; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : There is a need for intelligent freight transport solutions as the demand for road freight transport is continuously increasing while carbon footprint needs to be significantly reduced. Heavy-duty vehicle (HDV) platooning is one potential solution to partially mitigate the environmental impacts as well as to reduce fuel consumption, improve traffic safety, and increase traffic throughput on congested highways. 4. 4. Models for the Procurement of Subsidized Air Services : Conventional Aircraft and the Adoption of Electric Aircraft

    Author : Alan Kinene; Tobias Andersson Granberg; Clas Rydergren; Valentin Polishchuk; Jesper Larsen; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In liberalized air transportation markets, governments often adopt subsidy schemes through which they ensure air services along routes that are deemed commercially non-viable but economically and socially essential. The objective of these subsidized air service routes is to ensure a minimum level of services to outlying communities or remote regions that are difficult to access—by other modes of transportation—from the capital, other main cities or a hub airport yet can not be served commercially due to thin demand. 5. 5. Resource, Data and Application Management for Cloud Federations and Multi-Clouds

    Author : Vamis Xhagjika; Leandro Navarro Moldes; Vladimir Vlassov; Gregory Chockler; KTH; []

    Abstract : Distributed Real-Time Media Processing refers to classes of highly distributed, delay no-tolerant applications that account for the majority of the data traffic generated in the world today. Real-Time audio/video conferencing and live content streaming are of particular research interests as technology forecasts predict video traffic surpassing every other type of data traffic in the world in the near future.
