  1. 6. Modelling the Variability of Bending Strength in Structural Timber - Length and Load Configuration Effects

    Author : Tord Isaksson; Avdelningen för Konstruktionsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; code; reliability-based design; Weibull; test standard; load configuration effect; length effect; weak section; machine grading; visual grading; variability; Structural timber; bending strength; simulation; monte carlo simulation.; Building construction; Byggnadsteknik;

    Abstract : The load carrying capacity of a beam of structural timber is dependent both on the span of the beam and the type of loading. The longer the beam and the more uniform the moment distribution, the lower the load carrying capacity. This phenomenon is due to the variability of material properties within a piece of timber. 2. 7. Mechanical Characterization of Engineering Materials by Modal Testing

    Author : Daniel Larsson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; material variability; modal testing; non-destructive test methods; damping ratios; timber beams; plastic panels; aluminium panel; elastic constants; concrete curing; wood-based panels; solids; high-strength concrete; anisotropic materials;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the use of modal testing for establishing elastic constants of engineering materials and for indicating material variability in terms of stiffness and damping properties. The methodology using modal testing techniques, is applied to timber beams, high strength concrete prisms, wood-based panels (oriented strand board and chipboard), an aluminium alloy panel and plastic laminate panels (high-pressure laminate). 3. 8. Protection for Multiterminal HVDC Grids - A Digital Contribution

    Author : Ilka Jahn; Staffan Norrga; Hans-Peter Nee; Dirk Westermann; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; HVDC transmission; power system protection; IED; real-time systems; test bench; field programmable gate array; open-source hardware; open-source software; power engineering education; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis is to (1) enhance understanding of mechanisms that are important for the protection of high-voltage direct-current (HVDC) grids, and (2) suggest possible technical solutions. To that end, digital technologies were used both in simulation, as well as in a laboratory environment. READ MORE

  4. 9. Non destructive testing methods for integrity determination of concrete structures

    Author : Jon Rasmussen; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Tillämpad geofysik; Applied Geophysics;

    Abstract : The ageing of concrete structures can be a threat to human safety as well as being a huge economical factor in the near future. Lifetime prediction and damage assessment of concrete structures will be a growing part of infrastructure planning. READ MORE

  5. 10. Combined speckle interferometry and speckle correlation for non-destructive testing

    Author : Angelica Andersson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Experimental Mechanics; Experimentell mekanik;

    Abstract : When a sample is studied during loading in a tensile test machine, the sample is often exposed to rigid body motions during loading at the same time as it deforms due to tension. Therefore, the small deformation field is hard, or impossible, to measure when it is overlaid by a large motion. READ MORE
