  1. 1. Constructing Algorithms for Constraint Satisfaction and Related Problems : Methods and Applications

    Author : Ola Angelsmark; Peter Jonsson; Brahim Hnich; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; constraint satisfaction; CSP; graph problems; algorithm construction; computational complexity; microstructures; graph colouring; decision problems; optimisation problems; quantum computing; molecular computing; Computer science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we will discuss the construction of algorithms for solving Constraint Satisfaction Problems (CSPs), and describe two new ways of approaching them. Both approaches are based on the idea that it is sometimes faster to solve a large number of restricted problems than a single, large, problem. READ MORE

  2. 2. Assessment of prestressed concrete bridges loaded in combined shear, torsion and bending : uncertaintiers in deterministic and statistic methods

    Author : Arto Puurula; Luleå tekniska universitet; []

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis is to investigate the load-carrying capacity of bridges according to different models for shear in combination with bending, torsion and prestressing. The following models are studied: Model with traditional summation of the contributions from concrete and steel accroding to the Swedish Code BBK 94 Strut model according to the European code EC2 Modified Compression Field Theory from Canada The models are applied to the Källösund Bridge on the road to the island Tjörn on the West coast of Sweden. 3. 3. Uncertainty Quantification and Numerical Methods for Conservation Laws

    Author : Per Pettersson; Jan Nordström; Gianluca Iaccarino; Gunilla Kreiss; Rémi Abgrall; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; uncertainty quantification; polynomial chaos; stochastic Galerkin methods; conservation laws; hyperbolic problems; finite difference methods; finite volume methods; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : Conservation laws with uncertain initial and boundary conditions are approximated using a generalized polynomial chaos expansion approach where the solution is represented as a generalized Fourier series of stochastic basis functions, e.g. orthogonal polynomials or wavelets. 4. 4. On Multistage Analysis of Transonic Compressors: From Axisymmetric Throughflow Time-Marching to Unsteady Three-Dimensional Methods

    Author : Stephane Baralon; Chalmers University of Technology; []
    Keywords : shock; time-marching; deterministic; average-passage; multistage; fan; axisymmetric; 3D; unsteady; transonic; viscous; body force; stress; singularity; perturbation; throughflow; mixing-plane; modelling; finite-volume;

    Abstract : A throughflow time-marching finite-volume solver, capable of computing viscous transonic multistage compressor flows with embedded shocks, is presented. The behavior of the blade model, based on the blade mean surface flow tangency condition, was investigated for transonic flows. READ MORE

  5. 5. Block stability analysis using deterministic and probabilistic methods

    Author : Mehdi Bagheri; Håkan Stille; Charlie C. Li; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Block stability analysis; Model uncertainty; Joint relaxation; Partial factor; Sensitivity analysis;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a discussion of design tools for analysing block stability around a tunnel. First, it was determined that joint length and field stress have a significant influence on estimating block stability. READ MORE
