  1. 11. On Exergy and Aero Engine Applications

    Author : Oskar Thulin; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Installed propulsion unit performance; Turbofan; Aero engine; Performance modelling; Exergy analysis;

    Abstract : Aero engine performance analysis is highly multidimensional using various measures of component performance such as turbomachinery and mechanical efficiencies, and pressure loss coefficients. Using conventional performance analysis, relying on only the first law of thermodynamics, it is possible to understand how the performance parameters affect the component performance, but not how the component performance relates to the system performance. 2. 12. Risk of spontaneous fires at temporary storages sites for organic material, waste fuels and recyclables: Quantification and mitigation

    Author : Muhammad Asim Ibrahim; William Hogland; Ghasem Najafpour; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; temporary storage; risk of fires; spontaneous ignition; biofuels; recyclables; waste fuels; Miljövetenskap; Environmental Science;

    Abstract : Economic and environmental constraints have created increasing demand for (material and energy recovery) and recycling of waste generated from households, commercial and industrial activities. A wide variety of materials waiting for sorting, recovery, recycling and disposal are stored at temporary storage sites (TSS) where physical, biotic and abiotic processes can lead the stored material to spontaneous ignition. 3. 13. Properties of Type Ia Supernovae : From the (intermediate) Palomar Transient Factory

    Author : Seméli Papadogiannakis; Ariel Goobar; Rahman Amandius; Ulrich Feindt; Edward Baron; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Type Ia supernovae; cosmology; machine learning; fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Type Ia Supernovae (SNe) have been used to discover the accelerated expansion of the universe but many open questions remain unanswered. These include the stellar progenitor, extinction and possible systematic trends in the supernova brightness for different host galaxy environments or cosmic time. READ MORE

  4. 14. Impulse noise and brain injury. An experimental study in rats

    Author : Annette Säljö Moberg; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : apoptosis; astrocytes; brain injury; blast; c-Fos; c-Jun; c-Myc; impulse noise; ; neurons; neurofilament; NSE; rat and S-100;

    Abstract : Abstract. Pressure waves, experienced as impulse noise, affect many body organs, although most attention has been paid to the inner ear. Impulse noise is produced by e.g. READ MORE

  5. 15. Development of techniques for measurements of shock wave response and moisture content in granite

    Author : Dan Tilert; Lars Mattsson; Mikael Sjödahl; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Industrial engineering and economy; Industriell teknik och ekonomi;

    Abstract : For measuring small, fast deformations on a micrometre scale optical methods are common. Various forms of interferometry are available, and holography is another possibility. However, if there are complications such as limited space and hazardous environments special demands arise. READ MORE
