  1. 1. Model Membranes and Their Interactions with Native and Artificial Lipoproteins

    Author : Sarah Waldie; Marité Cárdenas; Michael Haertlein; Selma Maric; Timothy Dafforn; Malmö universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Model Cell Membranes; Cholesterol; Lipoproteins; Apolipoprotein E; Lipid Exchange; Reconstituted HDL; Atherosclerosis; Deuteration; Neutron Reflectometry; Small-Angle Neutron Scattering;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis arises from build-up of plaque in the blood, can result in cardiovascular disease and is the largest killer in the west. Low- and high-density lipoproteins are involved in the disease development by depositing and removing lipids to and from artery walls. READ MORE

  2. 2. Perdeuteration of Biological Macromolecules: A Case Study of Human Carbonic Anhydrases

    Author : Katarina Koruza; Molekylär cellbiologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Neutron protein crystallography; deuteration; protein production; cancer; inhibitor; human carbonic anhydrase IX;

    Abstract : Deuterated biomolecules - where hydrogen atoms (H) are exchanged to its isotope deuterium (D) - are essential for biological experiments in neutron scattering, but they are not readily available. In neutron scattering, D has a strong positive coherent scattering length (6.67 fm) in comparison with the negative scattering length of H (-3.74 fm). READ MORE

  3. 3. Spectroscopic studies of kaolinite surfaces

    Author : Ursula Johansson; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chemistry of Interfaces; Gränsytors kemi;

    Abstract : In this thesis, specific surface reactions on kaolinite have been investigated. The methods used are diffuse reflectance Fourier transform (DRIFT), FT-Raman and micro Raman spectroscopy. The deuterium exchange of the hydroxyl protons of kaolinite has been studied. READ MORE

  4. 4. Proton Conducting Ceramics; Synthesis, Characterization and Sample Cell Environments

    Author : FRANCIS GACHAO KINYANJUI; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; perovskites; neutron diffraction; Rietveld refinements; BaSnO3; in-situ cell; deuteron position; proton conduction; BaZrO3;

    Abstract : Acceptor doped Perovskite ceramics have been shown to exhibit high levels of protonic conduction in humid atmospheres. However significant grain boundary resistance and long sintering times required to achieve sufficient grain size growth has hindered their widespread application as electrolyzers, fuel cells and gas separation membranes. 5. 5. Synthesis and Applications of Dynamic Multivalent Nanostructures

    Author : Kitjanit Neranon; Olof Ramström; Aldrik Velders; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; multivalent nanostructures; self-assembly; metal-ligand exchange; dynamic covalent chemistry; bipyridine derivatives; dendrimers; liposomes; drug delivery; antimicrobial materials; fluorescent probe; plasmonic chemistry; gold surface functionalization; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the design, synthesis and development of dynamic multivalent nanostructures such as supramolecular dendrimers, liposomes and gold-functionalized nanostructures. These structures can be used for drug delivery and molecular sensing applications. READ MORE
