1. The diapause switch : Evolution of alternative developmental pathways in a butterfly
Abstract : Diapause decision is a classic example of a threshold switch mechanism with cascading effects on morphology, behaviour and life-history traits. This thesis addresses the downstream effects of the insect diapause switch, with the main focus on pathway-specific regulation of life-history traits, using the speckled wood butterfly (Pararge aegeria) as a study species. 2. Functions of Heparan Sulfate During Mouse Development : Studies of Mice with Genetically Altered Heparan Sulfate Biosynthesis
Abstract : Heparan sulfate (HS) is a ubiquitous polysaccharide on the cell surface and in the extracellular matrix. HS is an important actor in the regulation of cell signaling, especially in the developing embryo. READ MORE

3. Characterization of New Players in Planar Polarity Establishment in Arabidopsis
Abstract : Coordinated polarity and differentiation of cells in the plane of a tissue layer are essential to the development of multicellular organisms. Arabidopsis thaliana root hairs and trichomes provide model systems to study the pathways that control planar polarity and cell fate specification in plants. READ MORE

4. Control of early development of the lens and the retina
Abstract : The nervous system is composed of two separate compartments, the central and the peripheral nervous system. The peripheral nervous system (PNS) composed mainly of sensory organs transmits sensory information to the central nervous system (CNS) comprising the brain and the spinal cord. READ MORE

5. DNA double-strand break repair in ascomycetes
Abstract : Nonhomologous end joining (NHEJ) and homologous recombination (HR) are two pathways for DNA double strand break (DSB) repair. We found that the NHEJ protein Nej1 interacted physically with the HR protein Srs2, which was dependent on phosphorylation of Nej1 by Dun1. Srs2 recruitment to a DSB partly relied on Nej1 and Dun1.
