21. Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome. Treatment outcome, psychiatric aspects, neuropsychology and quality of life
Abstract : Background: Obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) is characterized by snoring and apneas during sleep leading to oxygen desaturation, sleep fragmentation and excessive daytime sleepiness. Prior reports have indicated that psychiatric morbidity associated with sleep apnea might be reversed by intervention correcting the sleep related breathing disorder. READ MORE

22. Long-term follow-up of prenatally dexamethasone-treated children at risk for congenital adrenal hyperplasia
Abstract : Congenital adrenal hyperplasia (CAH) is a disorder of steroid genesis affecting approximately 1:10 000 children and leading to increased levels of androgens during foetal life and subsequent virilization of external genitalia in affected girls. However, prenatal virilization can be eliminated by antenatal dexamethasone (DEX) treatment. READ MORE

23. The role of apoptosis in growth plate cartilage during normal and abnormal growth
Abstract : Longitudinal bone growth occurs at the growth plate where resting chondrocytes proliferate, differentiate into a hypertrophic form, and finally become terminal hypertrophic chondrocytes before giving rise to bone. Because growth occurs when proliferation exceeds cell death, alterations in cell death by apoptosis, which is essential for the maintenance of tissue homeostasis, could affect growth. READ MORE

24. Novel mechanisms of glucocorticoid-induced insulin resistance in human adipose tissue
Abstract : The global prevalence of obesity and type 2 diabetes (T2D) is increasing. From a public health perspective, it is therefore of interest to identify common underlying mechanisms of these comorbidities. Glucocorticoids are steroid hormones that are important in stress regulation in mammals. READ MORE

25. Oxidative stress and proteolysis in the lens. Effects of anti-inflammatory drugs
Abstract : Oxidative stress has been implied in formation of age-related cataract. The objectives of this thesis were to study redox regulation of proteolysis and oxidative/antioxidative effects of anti-inflammatory substances in human lens epithelial cells (HLEC) and intact mouse lenses. READ MORE
