  1. 6. Exploring the Grey Zone between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

    Author : Ekaterine Bakhtadze; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : T1D is most common in children and young adults and is characterized by autoimmune destruction of insulin producing pancreatic beta cells, presence of certain risk genotypes such as HLA-DQB1, INS VNTR, PTPN22 and need of insulin for survival. In adults the same situation is often referred to as Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA), with age at onset after 35 years and non-insulin requiring at least for 6 month after diagnosis. 2. 7. Immunogenetics of Childhood Type 1 Diabetes in Immigrant Patients in Sweden. Migration Studies on Type 1 Diabetes

    Author : Ahmed Delli; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Diabetes; Type 1 Diabetes; Childhood; Human Leukocyte Antigen HLA ; Islet autoantibodies; Zinc Transporter 8 ZnT8 ; Islet antigen IA2- ; Glutamic Acid Decarboxylase 65 GAD65; Insulin; Migration.;

    Abstract : This thesis examined whether the offspring of immigrants (non-Swedes) to Sweden are at increased risk of Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) when they are born or live in Sweden. It also evaluated if their T1D and T2D-related genes differed from Swedish patients and whether this genetic heritage determined the types and existence of islet autoantibodies at time of diagnosis and affected the classification of diabetes. 3. 8. Diabetes mellitus in Adults - Aspects of Incidence, Autoimmunity and C-peptide

    Author : Maria Thunander; Lund Medicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; type 2 diabetes; incidence; epidemiology; c-peptide; classification; antibodies; LADA; insulin; definition; autoimmune diseases; rheumatic antibodies; gastric antibodies; complications;

    Abstract : Type 1 and type 2 diabetes increase worldwide, leading to a heavy burden of disease and its complications. All 1666 adults aged 18-100 years with new onset diabetes in Kronoberg during 3 years were registered, and type of diabetes classified by pancreatic autoantibodies and C-peptide. READ MORE

  4. 9. Novel Circulating and Tissue Biomarkers for Small Intestine Neuroendocrine Tumors and Lung Carcinoids

    Author : Tao Cui; Valeria Giandomenico; Kjell Öberg; Apostolos V. Tsolakis; Marco Volante; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; small intestine neuroendocrine tumors; lung carcinoids; Ma2 autoantibodies; immunohistochemistry; olfactory receptor 51E1; blood samples; antibody suspension bead array; 小肠神经内分泌肿瘤,肺类癌,Ma2自身抗体,免疫组化,嗅觉受体蛋白51E1, 血液样本,抗体悬浮磁珠阵列; Endokrinologi och Diabetologi; Endocrinology and Diabetology; Lung Medicine; Lungmedicin; Molecular Biology; Molekylärbiologi; Oncology; Onkologi;

    Abstract : Small intestine neuroendocrine tumors (SI-NETs) and lung carcinoids (LCs) are relatively indolent tumors, which originate from neuroendocrine (NE) cells of the diffuse NE system. Metastases can spread before diagnosis. Thus, potential cures become unavailable, which entitles new biomarker development. READ MORE

  5. 10. Data integration and visualization in type 2 diabetes research and care: From biological mechanisms to precision medicine

    Author : Olof Asplund; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Type 2 diabetes T2D ; human pancreatic islets; human skeletal muscle; transcriptomics; genomics; phenomics; ANDIS; diabetes; diabetics;

    Abstract : Background. Type 2 diabetes (T2D) is a complex heterogeneous disorder affecting multiple organs. Gene expression studies in organs central to T2D, such as pancreatic islets and skeletal muscle will help elucidate and disentangle molecular mechanisms underlying T2D. READ MORE
