1. Pharmacometrics Modelling in Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus : Implications on Study Design and Diabetes Disease Progression
Abstract : Pharmacometric modelling is widely used in many aspects related to type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM), for instance in the anti-diabetes drug development, and in quantifying the disease progression of T2DM.The aim of this thesis were to improve the design of early phase anti-diabetes drug development studies with the focus on the power to identify mechanism of drug action (MoA), and to characterize and quantify the progression from prediabetes to overt diabetes, both the natural progression and the progression with diet and exercise interventions, using pharmacometrics modelling. 2. New Paradigms in GPCR Drug Discovery : Structure Prediction and Design of Ligands with Tailored Properties
Abstract : G protein-coupled receptors (GPCRs) constitute a large superfamily of membrane proteins with key roles in cellular signaling. Upon activation by a ligand, GPCRs transduce signals from the extracellular to the intracellular environment. READ MORE

3. Diabetes mellitus in patients with dementia : clinical care and pharmacological treatment
Abstract : Diabetes mellitus (DM) and dementia are frequent chronic disorders in the older population, however their relationship is complex - while DM is an established risk factor for dementia, cognitive symptoms in dementia may hinder the self-management essential in DM care. Importantly, the co-occurrence of DM and dementia is common in clinical practice, however the research examining patients suffering from both disorders is scarce. READ MORE

4. Covariate Model Building in Nonlinear Mixed Effects Models
Abstract : Population pharmacokinetic-pharmacodynamic (PK-PD) models can be fitted using nonlinear mixed effects modelling (NONMEM). This is an efficient way of learning about drugs and diseases from data collected in clinical trials. READ MORE

5. On designing educational portals for self-management of type 2 diabetes : lessons learnt from an Iranian context
Abstract : Introduction: The prevalence of type 2 diabetes (T2D) has been rising steadily and more rapidly in middle- and low-income countries. It is estimated that, by 2040, about 640 million people will have diabetes. Web-based technology and mobile phones have provided different services for patients with diabetes (e.g. READ MORE
