  1. 21. Teratogenic Predisposition in Diabetic Rat Pregnancy

    Author : Andreas Ejdesjö; Ulf J Eriksson; Parri Wentzel; Niklas Nordquist; Gernot Desoye; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetes; malformations; teratogenic; advanced glycation end products; AGE; RAGE; oxidative stress; ROS; gene expression; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Pre-gestational diabetes increases the risk of congenital malformation in the offspring and both morbidity and mortality in the diabetic mother and her offspring. During pregnancy, high glucose levels act as a teratogen through several cellular and biochemical pathways and increased production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) has a central role in diabetic embryopathy. 2. 22. Fetal Outcome in Experimental Diabetic Pregnancy

    Author : Sheller Zabihi; Ulf Eriksson; Michael Welsh; Elisabeth (Lisa) Persson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Cell biology; Rat; Mouse; TG; KO; Diabetes in Pregnancy; Embryo; Folic acid; Superoxide dismutase; Catalase; Glutathione peroxidase; Vascular endothelial growth factor-A; Folate binding protein-1; Bax; Bcl-2; Caspase-3; P53; Pax-3; Blood flow; Cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Women with pregestational diabetes have a 2-5 fold increased risk of giving birth to malformed babies compared with non-diabetic women. Diabetes-induced oxidative stress in maternal and embryonic tissues has been implicated in the teratogenic process. READ MORE

  3. 23. Studies on Prostanoid Production in the Umbilicoplacental Circulation

    Author : Pia Saldeen; Malmö Reproduktionsmedicin; []

    Abstract : The fetoplacental circulation is a low pressure system with a high vascular prostacyclin to thromboxane (Pc/Tx)synthesis ratio. In intrauterin growth restriction (IUGR) and diabetes the prostanoid balance may be altered. READ MORE

  4. 24. Exploring the Grey Zone between Type 1 and Type 2 Diabetes

    Author : Ekaterine Bakhtadze; diabetes och endokrinologi Genomik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : T1D is most common in children and young adults and is characterized by autoimmune destruction of insulin producing pancreatic beta cells, presence of certain risk genotypes such as HLA-DQB1, INS VNTR, PTPN22 and need of insulin for survival. In adults the same situation is often referred to as Latent Autoimmune Diabetes in Adults (LADA), with age at onset after 35 years and non-insulin requiring at least for 6 month after diagnosis.
