  1. 6. Epidemiological Aspects on Assessing and Treating Dyslipidemia in Type 1 Diabetes : Studies from the Swedish National Diabetes Register

    Author : Christel Hero; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Type 1 diabetes; dyslipidemia;

    Abstract : Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is a major cause of shortened longevity in individuals with type 1 diabetes. Dyslipidemia is one of the important modifiable risk factors. Aims: To investigate different aspects of dyslipidemia in type 1 diabetes. READ MORE

  2. 7. The genetic background of gestational diabetes mellitus

    Author : Anastasia Papadopoulou; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Gestational diabetes mellitus; HLA; TCF7L2; PTPN22; Post partum diabetes; Type 1 Diabetes; Type 2 Diabetes; Islet Cell Autoantibodies;

    Abstract : The aims of this work is to better determine the genetic background of gestational diabetes (GDM) and to examine how specific genes affect the development of diabetes post partum. In the DiPiS (Diabetes Prediction in Skåne) study we typed for HLA-DQB1 alleled, the transcription factor 7-like 2(TCF7L2) rs7903146, rs12255372 and rs7901695 SNPs, the 1858 C>T SNP of the protein tyrosine phosphatase non-receptor 22 (PTPN22) gene and we tested for the presence of islet cell autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase 65 (GAD65), insulinoma-associated antigen 2 (IA-2) and insulin in women who had been diagnosed with GDM at least once during 2000-2004. 4. 9. Antigen-specific islet antibodies: prediction of beta cell failure and differentiation between Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes

    Author : Henrik Borg; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; diabetology; Endokrinologi; secreting systems; Endocrinology; seropositive; seronegative; slowly-progressive; Type 2; Type 1; classification; IA-2A; IA-2; GADA; GAD; ICA; islet antibodies; C-peptide; beta cell function; diabetes mellitus; adult-onset; sekretion; diabetologi;

    Abstract : Autoantibodies against glutamic acid decarboxylase (GADA), protein tyrosine-phosphatase-like protein (IAÐ2A), and/or pancreatic islet cells (ICA) are autoimmune markers usually present at diagnosis of Type 1 diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is therefore in general believed to be caused by an immune-mediated beta cell destruction. READ MORE

  5. 10. The Perfect Storm? Gluten and type 1 diabetes

    Author : Emma Adlercreutz; Celiaki och diabetes; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NKG2D; Celiac disease autoimmunity; Gluten; Type 1 diabetes; Perinatal risk;

    Abstract : Aim: The general objective of the present research was to study the association between type 1 diabetes and celiac disease, and the effects of dietary gluten on the risk of developing type 1 diabetes. More specific aims were as follows: to estimate the prevalence of celiac-disease-associated autoantibodies in children with type 1 diabetes; to study the connection between non-HLA genetic risk markers and autoantibodies associated with type 1 diabetes and celiac disease during the first year after diagnosis of type 1 diabetes; to investigate the effect of gluten on the risk of developing type 1 diabetes; to evaluate the impact of perinatal factors on the risk of developing both type 1 diabetes and celiac disease.
