  1. 16. Degenerative changes of the human temporomandibular joint : A radiological, microscopical, histomorphometrical and biochemical study

    Author : Lennart Flygare; Göran Isacsson; Lunds universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Synovial Fluid; Temporomandibular Joint Diseases; Proteoglycans; Osteoarthritis; Observer variation; Microscopy; Bone density; Diagnostic properties; Image processing; Tomography; X-ray; Odontology; stomatology; Odontologi; Temporomandibular Joint Diseases; Synovial Fluid; Proteoglycans; Osteoarthritis; Observer variation; Microscopy; Bone density; Diagnostic properties; Image processing; Tomography; X-ray; Odontology; stomatology; Odontologi;

    Abstract : In five autopsy specimen studies human temporomandibular joints were investigated by conventional tomography, macroscopy, and microscopy for degenerative changes, in particular erosive hard-tissue changes.In the microscopical evaluation special attention was paid to the calcified cartilage. 2. 17. Imaging the tumor microenvironment : the dynamics and modification of hypoxia

    Author : Anna Ljungkvist; Peggy L. Olive; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Radiology; tumor microenvironment; double hypoxic marker method; proliferation; hypoxia; hypoxic half-life; Radiologisk forskning; Radiological research; Radiologisk forskning; diagnostisk radiologi; Diagnostic Radiology;

    Abstract : The tumor vasculature is poor and heterogeneous which may result in inadequate oxygenation and changed energy status. In addition the balance between cell proliferation and the rate of cell death is disturbed, which results in tumor growth. READ MORE

  3. 18. Pulmonary embolism : validation of diagnostic imaging methods in the clinical setting

    Author : Tage Nilsson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Computed tomography; lung scintigraphy; pulmonary arteriography; pulmonary embolism; D-dimer;

    Abstract : Pulmonary embolism (PE) is an elusive diagnosis and none of the existing imaging modalities have a 100% diagnostic specificity or sensitivity. Pulmonary arteriography (PA) is the most specific test although the improvement of computed tomography technique has made this a commonly used method. Lung scintigraphy often gives ambiguous results. 4. 19. A Rapid Differential Diagnostic Method for Detection of Post-Neurosurgical Infections

    Author : Amir Ramezani; Annette Theodorsson; Aki Laakso; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : This work pertains to the application of a biochemical assay with the purpose of monitoring for and early discovery of an active bacterial infection through direct sampling and rapid testing of the Cerebrospinal Fluid (CSF). A diagnostic device is described and evaluated, which aids in quickly discerning, verifying, or ruling out active infection at the injury site. READ MORE

  5. 20. Human antibody responses to hantavirus recombinant proteins & development of diagnostic methods

    Author : Fredrik Elgh; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Puumala virus; hantavirus infections; recombinant proteins; capsid; humoral immunity; immunoassay;

    Abstract : Rodent-borne hantaviruses (family Bunyaviridae) cause two distinct human infections; hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) and hantavirus pulmonary syndrome (HPS). HFRS is a common viral zoonosis, characterized by fever, renal dysfunction and hemostatic imbalance. READ MORE
