  1. 6. Utilization and allocation of organs for transplantation - medical and ethical aspects

    Abstract : Great efforts have been made to find solutions to the shortage of organs, such as extending the donor pool by accepting so-called marginal donors and development of transplantation of organs from animals (xenotransplantation, xt). Due to the scarcity of organs, there is a long tradition of prioritizing among patients on the waiting list for transplantation. READ MORE

  2. 7. Costimulation Blockade in Experimental Transplantation

    Author : Helene Malm; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; transplantation; Surgery; orthopaedics; traumatology; Kirurgi; ortopedi; traumatologi; serologi; Immunologi; serology; Immunology; Medicin människa och djur ; Medicine human and vertebrates ; graft survival; anti-CD40L; CTLA4Ig; anti-LFA-1; costimulation blockade;

    Abstract : Transplantation is the only cure for end-stage organ failure. With the transplantation follows the need for continuous treatment with immunosuppressive agents for as long as the graft functions, which entails major side effects. Less toxic treatments are therefore in great demand. Preferably, the treatment should also be limited in time. READ MORE

  3. 8. Binding of plasma proteins by Staphylococcus epidermidis: characterisation of protein-protein interactions

    Author : Dai-Qing Li; Diabetes - öpatofysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Microbiology; mice and immunisation; biomaterial-associated infections; von Willebrand factor; thrombospondin; clusterin; Staphylococcal receptins; vitronectin; bacteriology; virology; mycology; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi;

    Abstract : Coagulase-negative staphylococci (CoNS), in particular, Staphylococcus epidermidis, have emerged as major nosocomial pathogens associated with infections of implanted medical devices. These organisms, which are among the most prevalent bacteria of the human skin and mucous membrane microflora, gain access to the surface of the implant at the insertion. READ MORE

  4. 9. Mechanisms of transendothelial and tissue transport in the peritoneum. Experimental studies on rat

    Author : Bert-Inge Rosengren; Njurmedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; nefrologi; Urologi; hyaluronan; interstitium; blood flow; rat; pore; inhibition; temperature; peritoneal dialysis; permeability; capillary; protein; passive; active; transport; transcytosis; vesicle; Urology; nephrology; small solute;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the quantitative role of active transport (transcytosis) in bulk transvascular protein movement in vivo was evaluated. Using chemical transcytosis inhibition (N-ethylmaleimide (NEM) and filipin), we were able to show that NEM actually increases endothelial permeability to macromolecules, probably as a result of unspecific toxic action on endothelial cells. 5. 10. Leukocyte sequestration associated with inflammation : mechanisms and modulations

    Author : Kristina Nyhlén; Åke Ryrfeldt; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : Inflammationsreaktionen är kroppens första försvar mot främmande partiklar t ex bakterier. Det är en komplex reaktion som bl a karakteriseras av att vita blodkroppar dras till det inflammerade området och att vätskao i blodet lättare tar sig igenom kärlväggen till vävnaden dvs det svullnar.
