  1. 1. Characterization and Control of Multi-Cylinder Partially Premixed Combustion

    Author : Magnus Lewander; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Efficiency estimation; Closed-loop control; EGR; Diesel engine; Partially Premixed Combustion; Combustion control;

    Abstract : In the last decade diesel combustion has developed in a new direction. Research has been carried out trying to prolong the ignition delay and enhance fuel/air premixing to avoid diffusion combustion as well as lowering the combustion temperature through use of EGR. One of these new combustion concepts is Partially Premixed Combustion (PPC). READ MORE

  2. 2. Experiments on Heat Transfer During Diesel Combustion Using Optical Methods

    Author : Christian Binder; Andreas Cronhjort; Mattias Richter; Andrew Heyes; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Heat transfer; Internal combustion engines; Phosphor thermometry; Machine Design; Maskinkonstruktion;

    Abstract : Transportation is a crucial part of modern societies. This includes their economies. Trade and the transportation of goods have a great influence on prosperity. Nevertheless, the transportation sector with road transport in particular is heavily dependent on fossil fuels and emits a significant amount of greenhouse gases. READ MORE

  3. 3. Ice out of Fire : Ice and cloud condensation nucleation of aerosol particles emitted from controlled soot generation and combustion of renewable fuels

    Author : John Falk; MERGE: ModElling the Regional and Global Earth system; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Soot; BC; Immersion freezing; IN; INP; CCN; SPIN; CCNC; MiniCAST; Cold Stage; Cook Stove;

    Abstract : Aerosol particles, small solid or liquid particles suspended in a gas, are found everywhere in the atmosphere. Air pollution from such particles, mainly soot from combustion-derived activity is a leading cause of premature deaths in the world and have a large effect on the climate. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optical diagnostics of Soot in optically dense sprays

    Author : Raul Lima Ochoterena; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : Soot diagnostics in engines can be carried out with optical methods that have the potentialfor high temporal and spatial resolution. Some of these methods were appliedto study diesel spray combustion in the Chalmers High Pressure, High Temperature(HP/HT) spray rig. READ MORE

  5. 5. Development of a ferritic ductile cast iron for improved life in exhaust applications

    Author : Madeleine Ekström; Stefan Jonsson; Pamela Henderson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Material development; SiMo51; HK30; exhaust manifolds; high-temperature corrosion; high-temperature low-cycle fatigue;

    Abstract : Due to coming emission legislations, the temperature is expected to increase in heavy-duty diesel engines, specifically in the hot-end of the exhaust system affecting components, such as exhaust- and turbo manifolds. Since the current material in the turbo manifold, a ductile cast iron named SiMo51, is operating close to its limits there is a need for material development in order to maintain a high durability of these components.
