1. Diesel Engine Modeling for Engine Management System Development
Abstract : Due to increasingly strict emission legislation and stronger demands on fuel consumption, typical passenger car diesel engines become increasingly complex with more and more controllable systems added. These added systems open up for the possibility to operate the engine at more efficient conditions, but it also becomes more challenging to optimize the settings in the engine management system. 2. Reducing Diesel Engine Emissions - An Experimental Investigation
Abstract : In the recent past, the Diesel engine has been improved considerably in the areas ofperformance, fuel efficiency and exhaust emissions. In Europe, these improvements haveresulted in a strong increase in the sales of passenger cars equipped with a Diesel engine. READ MORE

3. Model-Based Diesel Engine Management System Optimization - A Strategy for Transient Engine Operation
Abstract : To meet increasingly strict emission legislation and stronger demands on fuel consumption, typical passenger car diesel engines become increasingly complex with more and more controllable systems added. These added systems open up for the possibility to operate the engine at more efficient conditions, but it also becomes more challenging to optimize the settings in the engine management system. 4. Embedded Systems and FPGAs for Implementation of Control Oriented Models, Applied to Combustion Engines
Abstract : Performance demands put on combustion engines are ever increasing, e.g. demands on emissions and fuel consumption. The increased demands together with new combustion concepts increase the need for feedback engine and combustion control. READ MORE

5. Full Cycle Engine Simulations with Detailed Chemistry
Abstract : The modeling work developed in this thesis can be divided in two main areas of investigations: autoignition related to spark ignition engine and combustion and emissions formation in relation to diesel engines. A first version of a detailed kinetics engine simulation program, extended to handle full cycle calculations, was employed in order to demonstrate the strong effect that nitric oxide from the residual gas has on the autoignition onset.
