1. Full Cycle Engine Simulations with Detailed Chemistry
Abstract : The modeling work developed in this thesis can be divided in two main areas of investigations: autoignition related to spark ignition engine and combustion and emissions formation in relation to diesel engines. A first version of a detailed kinetics engine simulation program, extended to handle full cycle calculations, was employed in order to demonstrate the strong effect that nitric oxide from the residual gas has on the autoignition onset. 3. Laser-Induced Emission Techniques for Concentration and Temperature Probing in Combustion
Abstract : The work in this thesis is aimed at the development of temperature and gas concentration measurement techniques in laser diagnostics for use in combustion research. The techniques are developed as tools for the combustion community to meet future demands on combustion efficiency and legislation of exhaust gases. READ MORE

4. Characterization of Gasoline Spray-Wall Interactions
Abstract : Interest in spray-wall interactions has intensified recently because of the development of direct injection spark ignition engines. In this type of engine, impingement of the spray on the piston and cylinder walls leads to increased emissions of hydrocarbons and soot. READ MORE

5. On microstructure formation and mechanical properties in grey cast iron
Abstract : A major user of cast components is the automotive industry, where the functionality of the components is related to environmental demands. Internal combustion engines are constantly being improved to emit less pollution. A vital part in this development is to increase the material properties of engine components during their life cycle.
