  1. 21. The development of resource polymorphism – Effects of diet, predation risk and population dynamical feedbacks

    Author : Jens Andersson; Lennart Persson; André M. De Roos; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : body shape; diet; geometric morphometrics; phenotypic plasticity; population dynamics; predation risk; resource polymorphism; size structured populations;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with the evolution of individuals within a species adapted to utilize specific resources, i.e. resource polymorphism. Although a well-known phenomenon, the understanding of the mechanisms behind is not complete. READ MORE

  2. 22. Trophic complexity of zooplankton–cyanobacteria interactions in the Baltic Sea : Insights from molecular diet analysis

    Author : Nisha H. Motwani; Elena Gorokhova; Jakob Walve; Catherine Legrand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bloom-forming filamentous cyanobacteria; diazotrophs; picocyanobacteria; zooplankton; grazing; molecular diet analysis; stable isotopes; biochemical indices; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Blooms of nitrogen fixing cyanobacteria (NFC) occur in many freshwater and marine systems, including the Baltic Sea. By fixing dissolved nitrogen, they circumvent general summer nitrogen limitation, while also generating a supply of novel bioavailable nitrogen for non-diazotrophic primary producers and ultimately supporting secondary production. 3. 23. Diet and/or exercise treatment for weight loss in overweight and obese women after childbirth

    Author : Fredrik Bertz; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; weight loss; overweight; postpartum; lactation; diet; exercise; behavior modification; DLW; body composition; RCT; Grounded Theory;

    Abstract : AIM: The aim of the research presented in this thesis was to evaluate whether, dietary behavior modification treatment (D), or physical exercise behavior modification treatment (E), or the combination of both (DE), provide short and long-term weight loss compared to control (C) among overweight and obese lactating women, and if so how. METHODS: At 10-14 weeks postpartum, 68 lactating Swedish women with a pre-pregnancy body mass index of 25-35 were randomized to 12 weeks of treatment or control. READ MORE

  4. 24. MINISTOP 2.0 : a smartphone app integrated in primary child health care to promote healthy diet and physical activity behaviors and prevent obesity in preschool-aged children

    Author : Christina Alexandrou; Marie Löf; Hanna Henriksson; Ulrika Müssener; Nina Cecilie Øverby; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MHealth; Primary child health care; Early prevention; Preschool; Diet; Physical activity; Childhood overweight and obesity; Smartphone app; Randomized controlled trial;

    Abstract : BackgroundChildhood overweight and obesity is currently estimated to affect 39 million children under the age of five worldwide. After the COVID-19 pandemic, further increases have been observed in several countries including Sweden, where an increased incidence was observed in 3- and 4-year-old children, especially in disadvantaged areas.
