1. Modeling Residual Stress Fields in Soft Tissues : with Application to Human Arteries
Abstract : Biomechanics or Mechanics of Biology comprises many different fields. This thesis deals with soft tissues or living tissues and the fact that these materials live in a pressurized environment. This means that an unloaded tissue may not be stress free. The stress in an unloaded body is usually called residual stress. READ MORE

2. Endogenous Nitric Oxide Production and Pulmonary Blood Flow : during different experimental lung conditions
Abstract : Nitric oxide (NO) is an important regulator of pulmonary blood flow and attenuates hypoxic pulmonary vasoconstriction (HPV). Nitric oxide is synthesized enzymatically in a number of tissues, including the lungs, and can also be generated from reduction of nitrite during hypoxia and acidosis. READ MORE

3. Adrenergic signaling in insulin-sensitive tissues
Abstract : Glucose metabolism in insulin-sensitive tissues such as skeletal muscle and adipose tissue is tightly regulated by external stimuli. Metabolic changes in these tissues have direct effects on whole body metabolism. Such metabolic changes can be induced or influenced by adrenergic stimulation. READ MORE

4. Enzymes in different pathways of bile acid biosynthesis
Abstract : Enzymes catalyzing side chain hydroxylations and dehydrogenation/isomerization in different pathways of bile acid biosynthesis were studied.Pig liver mitochondrial sterol 27-hydroxylase (CYP27A) was found to catalyze 24- and 25-hydroxylation of cholesterol in addition to the known 27-hydroxylation. 5. Salmonella in pigs : infection dynamics of different serotypes
Abstract : In recent years several incidents of feed-borne spread of Salmonella spp. have been documented in Swedish pig herds, including serotypes previously not associated with pigs. In this thesis two feed-associated serotypes (S Cubana and S Yoruba) were compared with two serotypes commonly detected in pigs (S Typhimurium and S Derby). READ MORE
