11. Studies on boundary values of eigenfunctions on spaces of constant negative curvature
Abstract : This thesis consists of two papers on the spectral geometry of locally symmetric spaces of Riemannian and Lorentzian signature. Both works are concerned with the idea of relating analysis on such spaces to structures on their boundaries. The first paper is motivated by a conjecture of Patterson on the Selberg zeta function of Kleinian groups. 12. Imperfections in Recycled Aluminium-Silicon Cast Alloys
Abstract : In striving to produce high quality cast components from recycled aluminium alloys, imperfections have to be considered, because recycled aluminium usually containsmore of it. However, there are great energy savings to be made by using recycledaluminium; as little as 5% of the energy needed for primary aluminium productionmay be required. READ MORE

13. Scattering on the Timoshenko Beam. Direct and Inverse Problems in the Time Domain
Abstract : This thesis concerns the use of time domain methods for treating direct and inverse scattering problems for flexural waves on beams. The Timoshenko equation is used throughout to describe the behaviour of such waves. READ MORE

14. Forward Jet Production in ep-collisions at HERA
Abstract : The production of forward jets has been measured in deep inelastic $ep$ collisions at HERA. The results are presented in terms of single differential cross sections as a function of the Bjorken scaling variable ($x_{Bj}$) and as triple differential cross sections $d^3 sigma / dx_{Bj}dQ^2dp_{t,jet}^2$, where $Q^2$ is the four momentum transfer squared and $p_{t,jet}^2$ is the squared transverse momentum of the forward jet. 15. Top Quark Pair Production in ATLAS
Abstract : The Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at the international particle physics laboratory CERN in Switzerland is currently the most powerful particle accelerator on earth. This thesis presents analyses of proton-proton collisions at the energy √s = 7 TeV, recorded by ATLAS, one of the detectors at the LHC. READ MORE
