  1. 1. Index theory in geometry and physics

    Author : Magnus Goffeng; Magnus C H T Goffeng; Göteborgs universitet; Göteborgs universitet; Gothenburg University; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Index theory; Cyclic cohomology; Regularized index formulas; Toeplitz operators; Pseudo-differential operators; Quantum Hall effect; Toeplitz operators;

    Abstract : This thesis contains three papers in the area of index theory and its applications in geometry and mathematical physics. These papers deal with the problems of calculating the charge deficiency on the Landau levels and that of finding explicit analytic formulas for mapping degrees of Hölder continuous mappings. 2. 2. Structural algorithms and perturbations in differential-algebraic equations

    Author : Henrik Tidefelt; Torkel Glad; Mats Jirstrand; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; differential-algebraic equations; index reduction; singular perturbation; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : Den kvasilinjära formen av differential-algebraiska ekvationer är både en mycket allmängiltig generalisering av den linjära tidsinvarianta formen, och en form som visar sig lämpa sig väl för indexreduktionsmetoder som vi hoppas ska komma att bli både praktiskt tillämpbara och väl förstådda i framtiden.Kuperingsalgoritmen (engelska: the shuffle algorithm) användes ursprungligen för att bestämma konsistenta initialvillkor för linjära tidsinvarianta differential-algebraiska ekvationer, men har även andra tillämpningar, till exempel det grundläggande problemet numerisk integration. 3. 3. Differential Equations with Constraints

    Author : Olivier Verdier; Matematik LTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : We study various differential equations subject to constraints. In the first part we study a partial differential equation, Burgers equation, subject to time-periodicity constraint. The forcing term is time-periodic and may be highly irregular. READ MORE

  4. 4. Opportunity for natural selection in Sweden : a study of childhood mortality and differential reproductivity

    Author : Helen M. E. Hed; Marianne Rasmuson; Aldur Eriksson; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Opportunity for selection; Crow s index; Demography; Sweden; 1600-1980; Mortality; Fertility; genetik; Genetics;

    Abstract : Opportunity for natural selection in human populations has so far mainly been studied on anthropological data for tribal populations or on census data for nations. The present study is mainly based on data on individual lifehistories but also, for part of the longitudinal study, on census data. READ MORE

  5. 5. Calibration and Hedging in Finance

    Author : Love Lindholm; Anders Szepessy; Erik Lindström; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; finance; local volatility; calibration; optimal control; hedging; quadratic hedging; equity; index; Tillämpad matematik och beräkningsmatematik; Applied and Computational Mathematics;

    Abstract : This thesis treats aspects of two fundamental problems in applied financial mathematics: calibration of a given stochastic process to observed marketprices on financial instruments (which is the topic of the first paper) and strategies for hedging options in financial markets that are possibly incomplete (which is the topic of the second paper).Calibration in finance means choosing the parameters in a stochastic process so as to make the prices on financial instruments generated by the process replicate observed market prices.
