  1. 1. Analysis of basic motor behaviors in quadrupeds

    Author : Manideep Gupta Vemula; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Ability to perform locomotion in different directions and maintain upright body posture is crucial for normal life. At present, mice, which allows employing genetic approaches, are widely used in studying the locomotor system. In these investigations different experimental setups are used to evoke locomotion. 2. 2. Occupational performance in school settings : evaluation and intervention using the school AMPS

    Author : Michaela Munkholm; Anne G. Fisher; Britta Löfgren; Curt Hagquist; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Occupational therapy; Assessment; Rasch measurement; Children; schoolwork performance; Differential item functioning; Differential test funktioning; Outcomes; Efficacy of intervention; school-based practice; instrument development; Occupational therapy; Arbetsterapi; Occupational therapy; arbetsterapi;

    Abstract : Background: This thesis is was designed to evaluate aspects of reliability and validity of the School Version of the Assessment of Motor and Process Skills (School AMPS) (Fisher, Bryze, Hume, & Griswold, 2007), an observation-based evaluation of quality of occupational performance when children perform schoolwork tasks in school settings. The long term goal was to contribute to knowledge about children at risk or with mild disabilities who experience difficulties with occupational performance in school settings, and describe how the School AMPS can be used when a true top−down process of planning and implementing school-based occupational therapy services is implemented in a Swedish context. 3. 3. Applications of the Virtual Holonomic Constraints Approach : Analysis of Human Motor Patterns and Passive Walking Gaits

    Author : Uwe Mettin; Anton Shiriaev; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Motion Planning; Humanoid Robots; Virtual Holonomic Constraints; Underactuated Mechanical Systems; Mechanical Springs; Automatic control; Reglerteknik;

    Abstract : In the field of robotics there is a great interest in developing strategies and algorithms to reproduce human-like behavior. One can think of human-like machines that may replace humans in hazardous working areas, perform enduring assembly tasks, serve the elderly and handicapped, etc. READ MORE

  4. 4. Assessment and differential diagnosis in childhood apraxia of speech

    Author : Susanne Rex; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Introduction and aims: Childhood Apraxia of Speech (CAS) is a disorder of speech motor planning and programming affecting the ability to transform the linguistic code into movements needed for intelligible speech. CAS is difficult to differential diagnose from other speech sound disorders (SSDs) and the diagnostic procedure involves many decisions based on outcomes from assessments before arriving at the appropriate diagnosis/es. 5. 5. Inter- and intracellular resistance and vulnerability in motor neuron diseases

    Author : Jik Nijssen; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and spinal muscular atrophy (SMA) are fatal diseases presenting with degeneration and loss of lower motor neurons in the brainstem and spinal cord. However, oculomotor and trochlear motor neurons that control eye movement, are resistant until late stages of disease. READ MORE
