1. Opportunity for natural selection in Sweden : a study of childhood mortality and differential reproductivity
Abstract : Opportunity for natural selection in human populations has so far mainly been studied on anthropological data for tribal populations or on census data for nations. The present study is mainly based on data on individual lifehistories but also, for part of the longitudinal study, on census data. READ MORE

2. Local Polynomial Regression with Application on Lidar Measurements
Abstract : This thesis deals with the problem of estimating a function or one of its derivatives from a set of measurements, mainly of a bivariate or spatial nature which is so common in environmental applications. In this work particular attention has been on the lidar (light detection and ranging) application which is a versatile technique for measurement of among other things atmospheric trace gases. 3. Exploring the Boundaries of Gene Regulatory Network Inference
Abstract : To understand how the components of a complex system like the biological cell interact and regulate each other, we need to collect data for how the components respond to system perturbations. Such data can then be used to solve the inverse problem of inferring a network that describes how the pieces influence each other. READ MORE

4. Runge–Kutta Time Step Selection for Flow Problems
Abstract : Optimality is studied for Runge-Kutta iteration for solving steady-state and time dependent flow problems. For the former type an algorithm for determining locally optimal time steps is developed, based on the fact that the squared norm of the residual produced by an m-stage scheme is a 2m-degree polynomial, the coefficients of which can be computed from scalar products of Krylov subspace vectors. 5. Selection and design in antibody phage display
Abstract : The immune system is an important part of the physiology of higher organisms. In the immune system antibodies play a key role in neutralizing and clearing potentially lethal threats from the environment. The importance of antibodies in the immune system has made them come to the attention as a tool in chemistry and medicine. READ MORE
