  1. 1. Nanoplasmonics for solar cells

    Author : Viktoria Gusak; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; enhanced near-field; adsorption; titanium dioxide; Localized Surface Plasmon Resonance; amorphous hydrogenated Silicon; diffusion; Langmuir kinetics; Dye-Sensitized Solar Cell; plasmonic nanoparticle; mesoporous material; diffusion-front model;

    Abstract : The main source of our energy system, the fossil fuels, will eventually be depleted and also pose environmental and climate hazards. There is thus a need for alternative, renewable energy sources. Solar (photovoltaic) cells will play an important role as one of them. READ MORE

  2. 2. Hydrogen in nano-sized metals : Diffusion and hysteresis effects

    Author : Wen Huang; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Max Wolff; Gavin Walker; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Hydrogen; diffusion; hysteresis; optical technique; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : Metal hydrides can be used as hydrogen storage materials for fuel cells and batteries, and as sensors for detecting hydrogen gas. The use of metal hydrides for hydrogen storage can be hindered by poor kinetics and low capacity. Moreover, poor sensitivity, long recovery and response time, limit the applications of metal hydrides as hydrogen sensors. READ MORE

  3. 3. Analysis of Binding Events and Diffusion in Living Cells

    Author : Markus Elsner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : COPI; Golgi; Diffusion; Glycosyltransferases; Sorting; Molecular; Crowding;

    Abstract : It is well known that diffusion is the main mode of transport in living cells, but the consequences of diffusion in a complex cellular environment are not generally appreciated. In this thesis, we have investigated several aspects of how diffusion properties influence the observability of cellular binding kinetics and how they can be used to obtain information about the environment of proteins and other molecules. 4. 4. Stochastic Simulation of Multiscale Reaction-Diffusion Models via First Exit Times

    Author : Lina Meinecke; Per Lötstedt; Stefan Engblom; Ramon Grima; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; computational systems biology; diffusion; first exit times; unstructured meshes; reaction-diffusion master equation; macromolecular crowding; excluded volume effects; finite element method; backward analysis; stochastic simulation; Beräkningsvetenskap med inriktning mot numerisk analys; Scientific Computing with specialization in Numerical Analysis;

    Abstract : Mathematical models are important tools in systems biology, since the regulatory networks in biological cells are too complicated to understand by biological experiments alone. Analytical solutions can be derived only for the simplest models and numerical simulations are necessary in most cases to evaluate the models and their properties and to compare them with measured data. 5. 5. Modeling of Hindered Diffusion in Gels

    Author : Jan Gutenwik; Avdelningen för kemiteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; effective diffusion coefficient; pore size distribution; obstruction; immobilization; modeling; adsorption kinetics; hindered diffusion; simulation program; proteins; Chemical technology and engineering; Kemiteknik och kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : Hindered diffusion occurs in the most different processes, as has been described in this thesis. It is very important to have an understanding of the influence of hindered diffusion on the mass transfer rate, especially when competing rate processes are acting simultaneously. READ MORE
