  1. 1. Phase-field modeling of diffusion controlled phase transformations

    Author : Irina Loginova; KTH; []
    Keywords : phase-field; dendritic growth; grain boundary; Widmanstaetten plate; solidification;

    Abstract : Diffusion controlled phase transformations are studied bymeans of the phase-field method. Morphological evolution ofdendrites, grains and Widmanst\"atten plates is modeled andsimulated.Growth of dendrites into highly supersaturated liquids ismodeled for binary alloy solidification. 2. 2. Phase field modeling of precipitation reactions in miscibility gap systems

    Author : Deepjyoti Mukherjee; Joakim Odqvist; Henrik Larsson; Benoît Appolaire; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Precipitation; Discontinuous; Diffusion; Boundary; Phase-field; Miscibility-gap; Cemented carbides; Binary alloys; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : As a backbone to the cutting tools and rock drilling industry, cemented carbides have been used widely due to their high hardness and wear resistance. Most commercially used cemented carbides contain a hard phase made of Tungsten carbide (WC) and a binder phase which is generally ductile. READ MORE

  3. 3. NMR Self-Diffusion Studies and Stability Studies of Emulsions

    Author : Ingrid Lönnqvist; LTH Ingenjörshögskolan vid Campus Helsingborg; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; coalescence; emulsion stability; size distribution; restricted diffusion; self-diffusion coefficient; self-diffusion PGSE NMR; surfactant; emulsifier; continuous phase; microemulsion; phase diagram; emulsion; multiple emulsion; cream; conductivity; Physics; Fysik; Chemistry; Kemi;

    Abstract : The aim of this study is to characterize emulsion systems by self-diffusion PGSE NMR methods. The specifics of the emulsions studied are all taken from the literature and they are of the W/O or O/W type stabilized with different emulsifiers. READ MORE

  4. 4. On the Growth of Bone through Stress Driven Diffusion and Bone Generation Processes

    Author : Gustav Lindberg; Hållfasthetslära; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; bone growth; Osteogenesis; Diffusion in bone; stress enhanced diffusion; Ginzburg-Landau; phase-field; diffusion experiment; Conductivity; Kalman filter; finite element method; Fourier series; Fick’s law; Osteology;

    Abstract : In order to prevent or modify bone degeneration due to rest or due to diseases such as osteopenia and osteoporosis, the modeling and remodeling of bone tissue must be better understood. In this thesis it is assumed that the primary condition leading to bone growth is a change of the chemical environment caused by transport of matter resulting from stress driven diffusion. READ MORE

  5. 5. NMR diffusion studies on lyotropic liquid crystalline systems

    Author : Greger Orädd; Frank Volke; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Diffusion; pulsed field gradient; liquid crystalline systems; lipid lateral diffusion; cubic phases; peptide-lipid interactions; hydrophobic mismatch; permeability;

    Abstract : The pulsed field gradient fourier transform nuclear magnetic resonance (PFG-FTNMR) method to measure translational diffusion coefficients in multicomponent systems has been applied to amphiphilic molecules forming liquid crystalline phases.By analyzing the concentration dependence of the diffusion coefficients of water and amphiphile in a micellar system of N,N-dimethyldodecy lamine oxide (DDAO) in water it was possible to conclude that the micelles formed were polydisperse in size and shape.
