  1. 1. On boundary value problems for intracellular subdiffusion and signaling pathways, and for geometric flows

    Author : Tobias Gebäck; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; boundary value problems; diffusion-reaction equations; signaling pathways; anomalous diffusion; pseudo-differential equations; fluorescence correlation spectroscopy; immersed interface method; Boolean grids; mean curvature flow; pseudo-differential equations; boundary value problams; flourescence correlation spectroscopy;

    Abstract : The main part of this thesis concerns mathematical models for diffusion of proteins inside cells, including reactions between the proteins. Initially, such models are applied to describe signaling pathways in yeast cells, and the properties of the model are studied, especially in relation to models that do not include diffusion. 2. 2. Convection-diffusion-reaction models of sedimentation : Numerical approximation, analysis of solutions and inverse problems

    Author : Julio Careaga; Matematik LTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The core of this Doctoral thesis is mainly based in the studies of one-dimensional initial-boundary value problems, which are given by a single non-linear hyperbolic partial differential equation (PDE) with non-convex flux function, or by a system of strongly degenerate parabolic PDEs, for the simulation of sedimentation processes of solid particles immersed in a fluid. Particular attention is paid to the case of settling in vessels with varying cross-sectional area. READ MORE

  3. 3. Discretizations of nonlinear dissipative evolution equations. Order and convergence

    Author : Eskil Hansen; Numerisk analys; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; kontroll; systems; numerisk analys; control; Datalogi; numerical analysis; Computer science; B-convergence; Dissipative maps; Logarithmic Lipschitz constants; Galerkin methods; Nonlinear evolution equations; Time discretizations; system;

    Abstract : The theme of this thesis is to study discretizations of nonlinear dissipative evolution equations, which arise in e.g. advection-diffusion-reaction processes. READ MORE

  4. 4. Computational modeling of complex flow : Doctoral thesis at Chalmers University of Technology

    Author : Johan Hoffman; Claes Johnson; Ragnar Winter; Chalmers; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : In this thesis we consider the following aspects of computational modeling of complex flows: (i) subgrid modeling, (ii) stability, (iii) a posteriori error estimation, and (iv) computational platform. We develop a framework for adaptivity and error control for multiscale problems, in particular for turbulent flow, based on a posteriori error estimates. READ MORE
