  1. 1. Sea Level Compensation System for Wave Energy Converters

    Author : Valeria Castellucci; Rafael Waters; Ronan Costello; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Ocean energy; Tides; Linear generator; Point absorber; Offshore experiment; Hydro-mechanic modeling; Power absorption; Control system; Communication system; Measurement system; Lysekil research site; Wave Hub.;

    Abstract : The wave energy converter developed at Uppsala University consists of a linear generator at the seabed driven by the motion of a buoy on the water surface. The energy absorbed by the generator is negatively affected by variations of the mean sea level caused by tides, changes in barometric pressure, strong winds, and storm surges. READ MORE

  2. 2. Adaptation of wave power plants to regions with high tides

    Author : Mohd Nasir Ayob; Rafael Waters; Johan Abrahamsson; Ian Masters; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Wave energy; Tides; Wave Hub; Lysekil research site; Control system; Tidal compensator; Wave energy converter.; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : The wave energy converter (WEC) developed at Uppsala University is based on the concept of a heaving point absorber with a linear generator placed on the seafloor. The translator inside the generator oscillates in a linear fashion and is connected via a steel wire to a point absorbing buoy. READ MORE

  3. 3. Complex Trait Genetics : Beyond Additivity

    Author : Simon Forsberg; Örjan Carlborg; Julien Ayroles; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; genetic interactions; epistasis; additivity; GWAS; vGWAS; Genetic mapping; yeast; Arabidopsis Thaliana; dog; Genetik; Genetics;

    Abstract : The link between the genotype and the phenotype of an organism is immensely complex. Despite this it can, to a great extent, be captured using models that assume that gene variants combine their effects in an additive manner. This thesis explores aspects of genetics that cannot be fully captured using such additive models. READ MORE

  4. 4. Induced pluripotent stem cell (iPSC) modelling for the identification of mechanisms behind neurodevelopmental disorders

    Author : Loora Laan; Niklas Dahl; Jens Schuster; Joakim Klar; Anna Falk; Jared Sterneckert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Induced pluripotent stem cells; Neurogenesis; Neural differentiation; Down syndrome; Dravet syndrome; Ataxia; Medical Cell Biology; Medicinsk cellbiologi;

    Abstract : Human induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) have opened new possibilities to recapitulate disease mechanisms and to model disorders in vitro. In the studies presented here, iPSCs were established to model neural differentiation in Down syndrome (DS), caused by trisomy for chromosome 21 (T21); Dravet syndrome (DRS), caused by variants in the SCN1A gene; and an ataxia syndrome, caused by a variant in the NFASC gene. 5. 5. Wind Turbine Sound in Cold Climates

    Author : Kristina Conrady; Anna Rutgersson; Karl Bolin; Sabine von Hünerbein; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; atmospheric acoustics; wind turbine sound; outdoor sound propagation; cold climates; Meteorology; Meteorologi;

    Abstract : The increase in the number of wind turbines (WTs) in populated areas in cold climates increases the number of people potentially being affected by WT sound. Outdoor sound propagation is strongly dependent on meteorological conditions, however, limitations in the knowledge exist regarding the implications of meteorological conditions in cold climates.
