  1. 1. Direct Conversion of Human Fibroblasts to Induced Neurons

    Author : Ulrich Pfisterer; Utvecklings- och regenerativ neurobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cellular Reprogramming; Direct Conversion; Human Induced Neurons; Dopaminergic; Cell Replacement Therapy; Lentiviral Vectors;

    Abstract : During direct cellular reprogramming, forced expression of key transcription factors (TFs) directly converts one terminally differentiated cell type into that of another fate, exemplified in this theses by the conversion of fibroblasts into functional induced neurons (iNs). Direct conversion of mouse fibroblasts to functional neurons was established in 2010, and the starting point of my doctoral thesis was the aim to transfer iN-technology to human cells and to explore the potential of this technique in regards to generate subtype-specific neurons as well as to use these cells for transplantation studies. 2. 2. Programming Blood Cell Fates. Insights from Direct Lineage Conversion and Development

    Author : Sandra Capellera Garcia; Avdelningen för molekylärmedicin och genterapi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Hematopoietic development; Erythropoiesis; Megakaryopoiesis; Direct Lineage Conversion;

    Abstract : Red blood cells (RBC) and platelets constitute the non-immune branch of the hematopoietic system and are responsible for the vital functions of transporting oxygen to the tissues and clotting blood vessel injuries, respectively. These cells are produced during embryonic development and throughout life through a process called hematopoiesis which is tightly regulated by extrinsic and intrinsic factors. READ MORE

  3. 3. Generation of human astrocytes for disease modeling. A study based on stem cells, direct conversion and genome engineering to dissect the role of astrocytes in leukodystrophies

    Author : Ella Quist; Lund Neurologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Astrocytes; Stem Cells; transcription factor programming; direct conversion; genome engineering; CRISPR Cas9; leukodystrophy;

    Abstract : Astrocytes are one of the major cell types in the central nervous system and are indispensable for brain development and function. The human brain and human astrocytes have unique structures and functions that are not present in other animal species. READ MORE

  4. 4. System Perspectives on Hydro-Kinetic Energy Conversion

    Author : Katarina Yuen; Mats Leijon; Chul Hee Jo; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; tidal energy; permanent magnet; direct-drive; in-stream power converter; load control; vertical axis turbine; renewable energy; engineering science; Engineering Science with specialization in Science of Electricity; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot elektricitetslära;

    Abstract : Free-flowing water currents such as tides and unregulated water courses could contribute to world electricity production given the emergence of robust technical solutions for extracting the energy. At Uppsala University, a concept for converting the energy in water currents to electricity using a vertical axis turbine with fixed blade-pitch and a direct-drive permanent magnet generator is studied. 5. 5. Gene conversion of the mouse MHC class II

    Author : Kari Högstrand; Ulf Gyllensten; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MHC; H2; gene conversion; evolution; polymorphism; Immunology; Immunologi; immunologi; Immunology;

    Abstract : The major histocompatibility complex (MHC) is the most polymorphic vertebrate gene loci known to exist. Gene products of the MHC are responsible for presentation of antigen derived peptides to T cells of the immune system, which thereby become activated and involved in the elimination of particles recognised as non-self.
