1. Design and Assessment of HVDC Off-shore Wind Turbine Generator
Abstract : In this work, design and assessment of a 5 MW wind energy generator with a gearbox is performed to find an energy-efficient generator for HVDC offshore wind turbines, studying aninterior permanent magnet synchronous generator (IPMSG) as well as a permanent magnetassisted synchronous reluctance generator (PMa-SynRG). Quantities such as torque density, torque ripple, losses and amount of magnet material are studied. READ MORE

2. The role of Southern Ocean fronts in the global climate system
Abstract : The location of fronts has a direct influence on both the physical and biological processes in the Southern Ocean. However, until recently fronts have been poorly resolved by available data and climate models. READ MORE

3. Wind Power - Added Value for Network Operation
Abstract : This dissertation deals with the investigation on different value added properties of variable speed wind turbines (VSWT) that stem from the flexible controllability of converter interfaced wind turbines (WT). Improvements in voltage and transient stability of a nearby grid, small-signal stability improvement on the power system, frequency control support for the network operation, as well as thetechnical and the economic issues related to the reactive power ancillary service provision, are among the issues covered. 4. Steady state analysis of HVDC grid in the North Sea with offshore wind power plants
Abstract : In this thesis, some of economical and technical aspects of expanding the HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) transmission systems in the North Sea are studied at steady state. In the thesis, it is assumed that the expansion of the system is made by connecting WPPs (Wind Power Plants) to the system which is built for power exchange. READ MORE

5. The low-carbon steel industry - Interactions between the hydrogen direct reduction of steel and the electricity system
Abstract : The European steel industry must achieve deep reductions in CO2 emissions to meet the targets set out in the Paris Agreement. Options for reducing CO2 emissions include electrification, carbon capture and storage (CCS) and the use of biomass. READ MORE
