  1. 1. Feature Informativeness, Curse-of-Dimensionality and Error Probability in Discriminant Analysis

    Author : Tatjana Pavlenko; Matematisk statistik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Statistics; Matematik; Mathematics; feature selection; Discriminant analysis; feature informativeness; growing dimension assymptotics; operations research; operationsanalys; programmering; aktuariematematik; programming; actuarial mathematics; Statistik; Multivariate analysis; MATHEMATICS;

    Abstract : This thesis is based on four papers on high-dimensional discriminant analysis. Throughout, the curse-of-dimensionality effect on the precision of the discrimination performance is emphasized. A growing dimension asymptotic approach is used for assessing this effect and the limiting error probability are taken as the performance criteria. READ MORE

  2. 2. Excavating the Digital Landscape : GIS analyses of social relations in central Sweden in the 1st millennium AD

    Author : Daniel Löwenborg; Paul Sinclair; Julian D. Richards; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; landscape archaeology; GIS; Iron Age; Västmanland; burial grounds; Vendel Period; Viking Age; territorial organisation; watersheds; statistical analysis; chronology; discriminant analysis; GWR; spatial analysis; perception; topography; AD 536; Fimbulvinter; property rights; crisis; historical ecology.; Archaeology; Arkeologi; Archaeology; Arkeologi;

    Abstract : This thesis presents a number of GIS based landscape analyses that together aim to explore aspects of the social development in Iron Age Västmanland, central Sweden. From a perspective where nature and culture are seen as integrated in the landscape, differences in the relations to the physical landscape are interpreted as reflecting social organisation. Abstract : In this thesis, we generalize a recent result of A. Eremenko and A. Gabrielov on irreducibility of the spectral discriminant for the Schroedinger equation with quartic potentials. READ MORE

  5. 5. Hypergeometric functions in several complex variables

    Author : Timour Sadykov; Mikael Passare; Bernd Sturmfels; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mathematical analysis; Analys;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with hypergeometric functions in several complex variables and systems of partial differential equations of hypergeometric type. One of the main objects of study in the thesis is the so-called Horn system of equations: xiPi(θ)y(x) = Qi(θ)y(x), i = 1, ... READ MORE
