  1. 1. High Power, Long Wavelength Semiconductor Disk Lasers for Continuous and Mode-Locked Operation

    Author : Hans Lindberg; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mode-locking; thermal management; spectral properties; optically pumped; single frequency; beam quality; vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser; disk laser; Semiconductor laser;

    Abstract : The semiconductor disk laser has recentlyemerged as an attractive alternative to bulky and power consuming gas and solid state lasers. It offers compact, powerful and efficient devices with W level output power and beam properties earlier not achieved with semiconductor lasers. READ MORE

  2. 2. Optically pumped semiconductor disk lasers for high-power wide wavelength tuning

    Author : Carl Borgentun; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; beam characterization; design; high power; wavelength tuning; Semiconductor laser; gain measurements; vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser; optically pumped semiconductor disk laser;

    Abstract : In this work I present and verify a strategy that makes it possible to change the wavelength, or color, of an external cavity semiconductor laser over a very large range. This is achieved by a careful design and thorough optimization of the active component — the gain element of the laser. READ MORE

  3. 3. Design and Performance of Optically Pumped Semiconductor Disk Lasers with Wide Tuning Ranges

    Author : Carl Borgentun; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; optically pumped semiconductor disk laser; tuning range; high power; Semiconductor laser; vertical-external-cavity surface-emitting laser; design; beam characterization;

    Abstract : In this work I present a strategy for providing the possibility to select the wavelength, or color, of a semiconductor laser over a very large range, by cleverly designing the vital part of the laser: the gain element of a so called optically pumped semiconductor disk laser. Optically pumped semiconductor disk lasers (OP-SDLs) are a relatively new class of lasers showing great promise for future applications. READ MORE

  4. 4. Compact solid-state lasers in the near-infrard and visible spectral range

    Author : Kai Seger; Fredrik Laurell; Uwe Griebner; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; volume Bragg gratings; single-longitudinal-mode laser; laser tuning; Q-switching; mode-locking; carbon nanotubes; semiconductor lasers; neodymium; ytterbium; nonlinear optics; KTP;

    Abstract : The subject of this thesis is the exploration of new concepts for compact solid-state lasers in the visible and near-infrared spectral range using new components such as volume Bragg gratings for wavelength stabilisation and wavelength tuning. Also single-walled carbon nanotubes for mode-locking and Q-switching of lasers have been studied. READ MORE

  5. 5. High speed imaging analysis of laser welding

    Author : Ingemar Eriksson; William O’Neill; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Manufacturing Systems Engineering; Produktionsutveckling;

    Abstract : Laser welding is often considered a new and exotic manufacturing method even though it has been used in industrial applications for nearly fifty years. In the early years only a few special applications justified the high investment cost involved, but as the price of the laser sources has reduced, industrial interest in laser welding has increased.
