1. The impact of wind power variability on the least-cost dispatch of units in the electricity generation system
Abstract : This thesis investigates the dynamics of electricity generation systems that involve high levels of wind power. Methods to account for wind power variability in electricity-dispatch models are explored, and the impact of wind power variability on the optimal output of the generation units, so as to meet the system load with the lowest possible cost (economic dispatch), is analyzed for several systems, for both regional and European cases. 2. Combined heat and power plant flexibility - Technical and economic potential and system interaction
Abstract : The share of variable renewable energy sources in electricity generation systems is expected to increase, leading to increased variability in the load that must be provided by conventional power plants or other flexibility measures. Thus, thermal power plants need to consider implementation of technical measures that enhance flexibility; to maintain profitability of operation with increased electricity price fluctuation, and to support electricity system stability. 3. Dynamic Power System Load -Estimation of Parameters from Operational Data
Abstract : The significance of load modeling for voltage stability studies has been emphasized by several disturbances, which have taken place in the past years. They have shown that the loads in combination with other dynamics are among the main contributors of prolonged low voltage conditions, voltage instability and collapse in the power system. READ MORE

4. Efficient Trading in the Short-term Electricity Markets for Integration of Renewable Energy Sources : Multistage Stochastic and Agent-based Modeling Approaches for Continuous Intraday Electricity Market
Abstract : This thesis investigates the role of different short-term electricity market design aspects that can facilitate better coordination of resources within the power system. The work also emphasizes on better cross-border integration of the short-term markets to improve the market liquidity, competition, social welfare, and flexibility in the system, which is essential for facilitating the integration of renewable sources. 5. Modeling and constructing unstructured overlay networks: Algorithms, techniques and the Smart Grid case
Abstract : Throughout its lifetime, the Internet was always associated with overlay networks; from the WorldWideWeb and peer-to-peer networks to blogs and social networking solutions, overlays built on the Internet infrastructure gave it additional value and made it more engaging to everyday users. Today, rising overlay networks such as the Smart Grid as well as a multitude of sensor, mobile andwireless networks herald a new era of unprecedented connectivity and networking. READ MORE
