  1. 21. On Particle Transport and Turbulence Modification in Air-Particle Flows

    Author : Camilla Ljus; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; turbulent dispersion; hot film probe; turbulence measurements; turbulence modification; particle transport; two-fluid model;

    Abstract : The transport of particles by airflow was studied for two different flow cases, the transport of pulp fibres in a mat-forming process and the transport of pulp fibres and spherical particles in a horizontal pipe. The transport of pulp fibres in the mat-forming process is first considered. READ MORE

  2. 22. Adsorption kinetics of cationic polyacrylamides on cellulose fibres and its influence on fibre flocculation

    Author : Daniel Solberg; KTH; []
    Keywords : Adsorption; bridging; cationic polymers; cellulose fibres; electrosteric stabilisation flocculation; ;

    Abstract : The adsorption of cationic polyacrylamide (C-PAM) and silicananoparticles onto a model surface of silicon oxide wascompared with the adsorption of C-PAM to fibres and theirinfluence on flocculation of a fibre suspension. An increase inionic strength affects the polyelectrolyte adsorption indifferent ways for these two systems. READ MORE

  3. 23. Structure and Dynamics of Hydrated Biopolymers

    Author : Poornima Ramamohan; Jakob Wohlert; Istvan Furo; Fritjof Nilsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Hydrated Polysaccharides; Molecular Dynamics Simulations; Structure-Function Properties; Convergence of Equilibrium Timescales; Chemical Heterogeneity; Hydrerade polysackarider; molekylära dynamiksimuleringar; struktur- funktionsegenskaper; konvergens av jämviktstidskalor; kemisk heterogenitet; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Hydrated polysaccharide systems primarily using xylans along with mutans and alternans were studied using long atomistic simulations over a few microseconds to analyse structure-function relationships and nanoscale interactions with moisture. The influence of various structural and chemical factors such as alignment, nature of glycosidic linkage, effect of moisture / chemical substitutions was explored with a focus on structure-dynamics correlations to aid in the effective functionalisation of biomaterials for the development of a green, circular bioeconomy. 4. 24. Inorganic and organic polymer-grafted nanoparticles : their nanocomposites and characterization

    Author : Carmen Cobo Sanchez; Eva Malmström; Henrik Hillborg; Anna Barros Timmons; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Si-ATRP; ATRP; polyelectrolytes; rGO; aluminium oxide; silica; CNF; CNC; PCL; LDPE; EBA; nanocomposites; matrix-free; extrusion; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Nanocomposites (NCs) have been widely studied in the past decades due to the promising properties that nanoparticles (NPs) offer to a polymer matrix, such as increased thermal stability and non-linear electrical resistivity. It has also been shown that the interphase between the two components is the key to achieving the desired improvements. READ MORE

  5. 25. Towards compatibilization of cellulose nanofibrils in polymer matrices : Polymer design for mediating the nanofibril–matrix interface

    Author : Rosella Telaretti Leggieri; Eva Malmström; Mats Johansson; Catarina de Carvalho Esteves; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cellulose nanofibril CNF ; copolymer; nanocomposite; coating; reinforcement; interface; Fiber- och polymervetenskap; Fibre and Polymer Science;

    Abstract : Magnifying the nanostructure of wood reveals the features of an extraordinary nanocomposite material. In this nanocomposite, long fibrils of semicrystalline cellulose, with a cross-section in the nanometer range and length up to several micrometers, are embedded in an amorphous matrix made of other polymeric components.
